susan mullen's recounting of O'Reilly's anecdote of Trump's message to Xi is just appalling for what it says about his psyche.

"...was the extent to which American Greatness, which in the conventional understanding amounts to economic well being."

Maybe I am in the minority but at one time (and it seems not so long ago) I believed that "American greatness" was predicated on its adherence to the founding principles of the country, as enunciated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. For example, the quaint notion that our government should be formed with appeal to the Creator and His natural laws.

After a few generations of educational neglect I suppose these documents have very limited influence on popular thinking anymore, which is very sad and actually tragic. When the "greatness" of the country is defined primarily by its ability to support and guarantee the economic well being of its inhabitants, that seems like a sure-fire recipe for disaster.

At any rate, from the Bushes on down "our" government has wrung out all of the transactional value it can from deceptions that their actions were based on our founding principles. Playing to the gullibility of people like me. So perhaps we have made a bit of progress over the decades after all - we have "woken up" to being screwed by the political class and the elites because we were principled and they were not.

This change began in1965 and was led by the “lion of the senate” when he deliberately lied to the citizens of America. The “ lion” claimed the immigration act of 1965 would never alter the character of the United States. United no more and pushed to the edge by people who came here with an agenda to alter the character of the United States we now see the result.

Me too. Trump's voters believed MAGA meant exactly what Diss said. We now know that for Trump and his neocon backers it means "greatness" built on foreign wars and bullying other nations into submission.

Yes, Steg that is exactly right. What comes now is what most of us, who hold these truths to be self evident are denied the truth as we are told these truths are not self evident. What?

Putin's phone call to Leo says a lot about Putin. It would have been easy for him to simply be offended by Leo's past comments when Leo was still Prevost and ignore him. That would have played very well at home in Russia. Instead, Putin saw Leo's new status as an opportunity to make Russia's case--but without conceding his principles.

Agree. And when both heads of state agreed to intensify mutual work together to protect Christians worldwide, immediately I thought, they will protect Americans too, from our own government's deep state amoralists.

Ron Unz and Chad Crowley posted nearly identical articles, referencing nearly identical sources, on Jun 2 and Jun 3, respectively:

Unz: The True History of World War II

https://www.unz.com/runz/the-true-history-of-world-war-ii/

Crowley: "Undoing the Myth of the “Good War” https://chadcrowley.substack.com/p/undoing-the-myth-of-the-good-war

Unz opened his lengthy article by comparing the *real* history of origins WWII to the Ukraine (US) Russia war.

From my POV, the 'economic consequences of the [WWII] peace' (h/t J M Keynes) was/is the economic prosperity and global dominance USA / Americans have enjoyed for the past century, give-or-take -- whether they acknowledge it or not, and major forces are intent on keeping Americans in the "not" category.

Trump seems to be attempting to regain/maintain that dominance by replicating some of the same schemes as those that resulted in 30 years of wars in Europe, the destruction of formerly successfully industrious states.

I read Unz a few days ago but couldn't fit it in--too big a topic. I thought it was overall very good, although I had a few areas of tentative disagreement. Highly recommended.

And just today, June 4, Curtis Yarvin publishes the following thread about the horrendous prisoner of war camps set up by the U.S. to hold (murder?) captured and surrendered members of the Wehrmacht.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1930232102986842384.html

“It looks like a bureaucratic murder of hundreds of thousands of people, successfully covered up, AND still protected 80 years later—by the same institutions that did it . . . The motivation of this war crime was obviously the complete political and military subjugation of Germany . . . our Empire of Love is just an empire. Not magic or special. Better than some, worse than others. Not in 2025 what it was in 1945. But— From a distance, the Overton window looks like it’s made of glass. Get close and you see it’s barbed wire.”

It's looking like 2025 is no longer an interesting time but more like a year of chaos.

It was predicted and many scoffed at this. One could see chaos coming if they just opened their eyes and chance a look. Now they will say, “I didn’t see this coming!” As usual none so blind as those who refuse to see. Trite? Yes, but accurate.

Re: US view of "Russia and China," Bill O'Reilly spoke of his recent trip to China on behalf of Pres. Trump. I happened to be listening to Rita Cosby's talk show on WABC radio (in NY but available on the internet) two or 3 nights ago, O'Reilly called in. (O'Reilly also has a talk show on WABC radio from 9-10P, M-F.) O'Reilly said he and his son (age 21 I believe) traveled to China to meet w. top officials to pass along Trump's views which were that if China stopped supporting Russia, helped to isolate it from the world, this would please Trump and possibly gain a Nobel Peace Prize for both China and Trump. Very sick. (I'm not a fan of O'Reilly or Rita who are both Deep Establishment, I occasionally check in to see what they're saying. They're both beloved by WABC radio owner, John Catsimatidis).

The last two weeks have been pretty depressing, at least for me, with all the revelations that seem to point undeniably to a DJT that was “not as advertised” and that unfortunately appears to be the same ol’ crap in new wrapping, but this is the cherry on top!

You send a private citizen to deliver a message that anyone with two functioning brain cells would know will not be taken seriously by the Chinese government or any of its representatives!! I’m beginning to think that a bunch of idiots from the Biden administration must have figured out a way to remain in positions of influence in the Trump administration. You dangle a bright, shiny and meaningless “prize” in front of the Chinese and expect them to be impressed? I thought that amateur hour was over when Biden left office? Guess that’s one more thing I was wrong about where DJT is concerned.

Yes, a very depressing couple of weeks.
