Cutting ties with his principle benefactor could have dire consequences for the erstwhile "King of Israel."

If indeed the October 26, 2024 attack on Iran was the devastating success Israel claimed it was, they would absolutely have followed it up with strike after strike after strike after strike.

But they haven't gone anywhere near Iran since then.

Observations:

Netanyahu sank the Trump brokered Gaza detente, and restarted hostilities.

Netanyahu is also trying to provoke a response from Herzbolla by attacks in Lebanon.

Israel is seizing more territory in Syria, which is triggering Turkey, who’s leader is talking to Trump.

Trump was sold on Yemen as a sure thing slam dunk, and a way to pressure Iran. This has been proven to be false.

Majorie Taylor Greene signaled the MAGA base hates foreign wars.

Netanyahu saw Yemen as the first step to get the U.S. to attack Iran.

Waltz is seen as trying to torpedo Hegseth, working with an ex idf writer that is anti Trump, Jeffry Goldberg. Lots of anti Hegseth activity, is it because he’s incompetent or seen as lukewarm on unquestioningly supporting Israel?

Israel sank the nomination to work for Tulsi Gabbard of Daniel Davis as him being anti Semitic.

Israel has huge clout in Congress, and other ways to pressure any U.S. administration.

Trump with his efforts against Big Education / Ivy League on anti Semitism, is inoculating himself against charges of anti semitism.

This is a fundamental change in U.S. policy. It is not conceivable that a president Joe Biden or Kamala Harris would have shunned Netanyahoo on three of such important issues.

The change comes while Trump fired his national security advisor Mike Waltz for having too 'intensive contacts' with Natanyahoo's office. He had also called off strikes against Iran which Israel and Waltz had been planning.

Netanyahoo's manipulative behavior is likely the reason for these changes:

US President Donald Trump has decided to cut off direct contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a report said Thursday.

Yanir Cozin, a correspondent for Israeli Army Radio, said in a post on his X account that Trump made the decision after close associates told Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer that the president believes that Netanyahu is manipulating him.

***An Israeli official added that Dermer’s tone during recent discussions with senior Republican figures about what Trump should do*** was seen as arrogant and unhelpful.

The official said that people around Trump told him that "Netanyahu was manipulating him."

**"There is nothing Trump hates more than being portrayed as a fool or someone being played.** That’s why he decided to cut contact with Netanyahu," the official added.

NEW: Trump May Announce Gaza Deal With Minimal Israeli Input, Says Israeli Report

A new report from Israel Hayom says U.S. President Donald Trump may unveil a sweeping Gaza agreement by the end of this week—one developed with deep American involvement but only partial Israeli participation. The deal is said to include provisions for ending the war, rebuilding Gaza, and redefining control of the Strip—potentially over Israel’s objections. ...

Are we proposing that puppet King Trump has cut his handler’s strings and is now searching for his legs? I can hear the conversation around his family’s dinner table.

Trump better be careful, he may run afoul of recently imposed laws (?) against anti-semitism.

Long overdue (decades?), and I hope this decision heralds the beginning of a genuine “US foreign policy.” Very heartening news.

I wouldn’t say owned, Cass, but encouraged, by his handlers. Perhaps the tea leaves are telling him his legacy will be tainted if he doesn’t course correct. After all the view on Israel is growing increasingly negative around the country.

But not by Netanyahu and Ron Dermer. There is a distinction. When he takes back his EO on anti-semitism--cf. Bro Ass above--I'll say he's free.

OTOH, it's possible this is all gaslighting. My guess is it's not.

It seems this shows Trump to be a slow learner who isn't nearly the tough guy he likes to present himself as. The reporting says he was told he was being manipulated--had a hard time figuring that out on his own. This fits in with Trump 1.0. He had to deal with Netanyahu back then, is said to have despised him based on that experience, and the first thing he does in Trump 2.0 is allow himself to be talked into a totally dumbass war by Netanyahu. Stable genius?

My thoughts also. Something is wrong if his advisors and the intelligence he has received until now had not informed him of Netanyahu's manipulative practices and intent. On top of that I have a hard time buying that he was not aware of Netanyahu's underhandedness until now given his PUBLIC statements about not trusting Netanyahu as a result of Trump 1.0. So there is more at play here than just trust or manipulation.

I should add that Trump values loyalty very highly. Could it be that he expects that if he shows it to others they will return the favor and could that be a point of political weakness for him?

You keep setting up straw men. Never have I suggested that Trump is stupid--to the contrary. But I have maintained that his public persona is a projection of what he'd like to be rather than what he actually is: slow to stand up to people who serially manipulate him.

Nor do you tell us where Trump actually wants to go--or whether the American people want to go to that same place.

Where is that place that Trump wants to go that can only be reached by accepting humiliation at the hands of the Houthis and involved trashing the free speech rights of Americans at the bidding of Jewish Nationalists? Or by further destroying America's image by engaging in genocide?

I think, I think, I think. But Trump never says these things. I don't believe I've ever heard him speak of a "peace treaty". To my recollection, he only speaks of a ceasefire, a halt to the fighting. That's totally different from what you think, think, think.

Back off the genocide? He keeps sending Israel bombs. Win the midterms over the bodies of dead children? Why not go to the nation? There's lots of support for stopping the genocide.
