It is truly sobering when you see the leader of another country who is supposedly our enemy espousing the very standards the defined the American republic for over 200 years. And even more sobering is it to listen to the President of the United States and members of his party espousing vile and contemptible ideas that were not talked about in polite society a mere handful of years ago. The moral and intellectual incongruity of this mindset leaves me wondering how we survive the coming darkness that is sure to follow in the wake of this conduct.

Interesting times to be sure, but sad and sobering times as well.

VP channels George Washington??

“And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”

I just began reading the post, the opening sentence "Traditional Catholics...will remember the days when we said prayers after Mass for the conversion of Russia."

Immediately said to myself, "Well, gee, the Russian Federation is NOT the Soviet Union; seems like you got your request!"

And only *after* thinking that, I read "After all, is it not possible that the prayers for conversion have been answered?"

We can't really say Putin is trying to de-moralize his enemies, can we? But, is he trying to re-moralize his enemies? Fraternal correction? Perhaps.

When you see that the head of another country is defending God's morality and you are fighting that leader, that isn't good for your country's future, is it? Is Putin a modern-day Cyrus? Could be, I think. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. God IS our ultimate and only hope.

Any Christian who has observed and/or been subject to our recent history should already have been praying long and hard for the U.S. God does listen and he will work in His particular ways to bring about the best result for all who believe in Him.

It dawned on me several years ago that I needed to pray daily for the conversion of the Church’s hierarchy. I was just telling my wife that maybe 1 in 10 bishops is worthy of the office, 5 are full-on heretics, and the rest are gutless mediocrities. Kyrie eleison!
