John Roberts has never lived up to his billing and he is, if anything, a shallow man with no real sense of his role in assuring justice as their primary goal. His fingers seemed to always be on the scales of justice tipping in favor of covering his own ass.

It, the trial, is straight outta television…so the judge has to dutifully play his role and gain his shekels and “at ta boy.” It’s a fantasy ending for those still living in that paradigm: including that some sort of “restoration,” left or right, is coming. The reality is that no cares or takes it seriously, or thinks that it brings any “order” to a world perceived to be off kilter. We have moved on. It’s now about the particulars going forward. Will variations on the old “great again,” work, or does the Digital Paradigm and the coming massive spiritual revival mean a full rebuild with most of modernity scraped?

Now that Merchan has finally gotten Trump to court with SCOTUS sitting on its hands, he is free to sentence Trump to jail.

TGP:

Chief Justice John Roberts and screwball Amy Comey Barrett sided with the far-left justices on the court.

“Justices Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch would have granted Trump’s application for a postponement of sentencing, the majority wrote,” CBS News reported.

ACB is a huge disappointment.

She's a modern day Catholic woman attempting to thread the needle to stay out of the eye of the US's oldest prejudice, anti-Catholicism. IMHO. Yes, she is and has been a huge disappointment especially when so many people stood by her side staving off the disparagement you knew was coming from hateful Democrats.

Dickens wrote in Oliver Twist: "the law is a ass — a idiot. If that's the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is, that his eye may be opened by experience — by experience.”

Sounds about right to me !!!

This doesn't affect Trump's right to an appeal, does it? This is just a denial of an expedited process, skipping steps. SCOTUS will end up ruling on this case anyway, unless I'm mistaken.

Correct. His appeal will first proceed through the NY courts. It should never have gone this far. Total lack of justice.

Roberts has always cared more for his so called "legacy" than the good of the nation. This is not the first time that the USA has been thrown under the bus by SCOTUS and not even the worst. We may muddle through.

With the sentencing he may now be referred to as a convicted felon, the first elected to the US presidency, though plenty of uncharged criminals have been elected to the office prior to him, and many left the office after engaging in criminal conduct. Trump should skip the sham sentencing and dare the odious Merchan to send US Marshalls to arrest him. Nothing like a little drama to lighten up the pre-inauguration festivities.

Contempt of court? I don't think that's good optics for him, honestly. The left would never shut up about what an autocratic act that would be; why give them ammo? The whole thing has been such a sham, but he's been very patient and compliant with the process. So why stop now? He'll be vindicated on appeal, if there's any rule of law remaining.

To SOME extent I am being facetious, though a little drama would be great entertainment. I have zero faith in the courts. ACB seems to side with the liberals too often. She was a rushed, poor choice and will be a thorn in the side of conservatives.

Roberts is terrified of being seen as political, especially decisions favoring Trump.

Which makes Robert’s appear political with his decisions, and blathering about how non political the courts are.

More than that, Malcolm, I believe it reflects the feelings of the clear majority of the public. It reflects poorly on our court system as a one interested in justice.

The Roberts court has disappointed the majority of the public for his entire tenure as it's leader. As time moves on the GWB years are rich in disappointment and the GWOT and Roberts along with deceit is his legacy.

Could Merchan do a double cross and actually sentence Trump to jail?
