Russia has responded at the highest levels to Lithuania’s unilateral abrogation of the treaty governing goods transport—through the territory of Lithuania—between the Russian Federation and its Kaliningrad Oblast (which is surrounded by Poland and Lithuania).
The Biden Administration is on its way to becoming the first in American history to lose two wars in less than a year. They have decided that only intervention by NATO troops can save Kiev. (I still use the old style spelling and given the course of the war we might as well go back to using it.) Washington wants war with Russia. No one in America outside the Washington psycho ward wants this. So they need Russia to commit the first overt act.
One wonders what bribe the Lithuanians were offered that they deemed worth the risk.

After all, the Biden admin people responsible for Ukraine in 2014 and 2022 (Blinken, Nuland, et. al) still are running things. They would not hesitate to start a new war in the Baltics while thinking Russia would never use Nukes. This effort to overthrow Putin has been long standing among the U.S. neocon establishment and is not something arising recently due to the U.S. economy, though. As Mark has amply documented they truly want strategic control over the heart of Eurasia and the natural resources within Russia's border as a further step in world domination.
Yeah, it's hard to see this ending well for them. Moreover, that LNG will cost far more than Russia nat gas--otherwise they would have made the switch already. Unless the US promised to subsidize them. But there's still the electricity. Nothing to do with energy is as simple as they're making out.
If I read the numbers correctly, that regasification unit/ship supplies ~0.2% of the daily nat gas consumption of Lithuania. Doesn't sound like "energy independence".

My take on NATO is it’s a huge bluff, they hope Russia never calls. Germany has no interest, much less ability, to defend other countries.
