By “strike” we include missile or rocket attacks—please don’t ask me the difference—but, more importantly an actual ground strike from Gaza into Israel amounting to an invasion of sorts.
Iron dome being overwhelmed this time. If you recall a few months ago in previous Hamas attacks they began to test and validate this theory when at that time Dome failures began to crack under smaller number of missile barrages. Hamas learned from this and just put it into practice.
I don't buy the conspiracy theories--not that there aren't conspiracies. Until I see more persuasive arguments I'm going with "intel failure". Stuff happens. I mean, look at Pearl Harbor. Oh, wait ...
No one has said it yet, but with all the known corruption in Ukraine and reports of weapons and other hardware going missing and "sold" on the blackmarket, could some of that make its way to Hamas?
Are Hamas now well stocked for an extended duration conflict?
No one has mentioned that $6 billion that FJB shipped to Iran on Sept 11th either. I mentioned both to US congresspersons banging "let's go to war" drums on X - as in, where were you when you shd have been exercising oversight & making noise abt these things?!
The picture you have painted, eps. paragraph 3, effectively sets into motion an oil shortage felt globally. This swan in particular has the possibility of bringing the economic house of cards. down.
Yemen’s source is Iran. Highly likely Iran bankrolling the arms exchanges with many in Middle East. Flush with cash from Russia drone needs and recent $6B being unfrozen.
I see Scott Ritter is already calling this a potential strategic defeat for Israel should Hezbollah jump in, or the even the END if Iran gets involved. I dunno, that's quite a hot hot take.
Basically, this is a very localized attack, and Hezbollah would already be in it if they were going to be in it.
Of course, each subsequent action has surely been plotted by whoever planned this. Israel will follow the programming and wipe out Hamas, occupy Gaza, and right or wrong the Arab/Muslim world will be united in their outrage. DD Geopolitics reports that the Turks are already holding big anti-Israel protests. Upside: If the MIC can score here, maybe we'll hear less of the Taiwan nonsense.
My impression of Israeli life is that the citizens are heavily armed and trained for exactly this kind of warfare. Was I wrong? I can't imagine living that close to Gaza and allowing myself or family to be captured and marched back into Gaza unless I have been completely disarmed for some reason.
I worked on a Moshav (farm) in the Jordan valley way back in the 80s. It was run by French Jews. There were trenches and a few dug in tank turrets, as well as guns and boxes of grenades in the bathroom of every house. They were tough SoBs. It's probably changed now.
Ukraine was going to fall apart Russians to tough to beat, go back to the tried and true set the Mideast on fire. They do not vary from the playbook much.
OTOH, it seems this attack was too well planned to be strictly spur of the moment response. OTOH, again, the invasions of Al Aqsa have reportedly been a yearly event for some time.
Israeli Defense Forces are reported to have Recaptured the Re'im Military Base in Southern Israel near the Gaza Strip which was Overran by Hamas Terrorists earlier this morning resulting the Commander of the Base being Captured.
Will the Israel’s highest court dictate how the IDF will respond? Will leftist IDF officers/pilots mutiny and not follow Netanyahu’s orders? Basically will the recent leftist activity continue with war fighting or is the survival of their people more important than their hatred of Bad Orange Man: Tel Aviv Version?
Don't rule out human incompetence. The Israelis are smart but they got caught out by Egypt in '73. They've also been completely distracted by the supreme court issue.
Yeah, it could be a case of simply playing politics when one's job is defending the country, but I am suspicious that it was deliberately political to allow it to happen without pre-emption.
As someone who is partly Jewish, has had some great times in Israel and who has read every book on the Holocaust, I was always a supporter of Israel. And, while always feeling sorry for the Palestinians, I still believe that the Jews have to have some kind of homeland. However, the Covid thing was a massive eyeopener to me. I was staggered at how the Israeli government behaved towards their citizens. From Israeli friends, I came to the conclusion that the authorities there did a very convincing impersonation of Nazis. I realised how naive I was to think that modern Israelis were like the Old Testament Jews, a people apart. Like so much else over this last 3 years, it's been a massive awakening.
Iron dome being overwhelmed this time. If you recall a few months ago in previous Hamas attacks they began to test and validate this theory when at that time Dome failures began to crack under smaller number of missile barrages. Hamas learned from this and just put it into practice.
And I assume they probably get some pretty good technical assistance.
Should have put this on the subsequent post. I’m serial threaded and read things in sequence. Character flaw.
Obvious intelligence breakdowns on the part of the IDF/Mossad. Seems everyone caught off guard on the Yom Kippur anniversary. This could get ugly.

This could be the real start to WW3.

You just said it, so it's been said. And it's a very valid point. Once that stuff leaves Ukraine there's no real control over where it winds up.
The picture you have painted, eps. paragraph 3, effectively sets into motion an oil shortage felt globally. This swan in particular has the possibility of bringing the economic house of cards. down.
The potential for disastrous global repercussions is definitely present.
This would be an end of day summary:

Another Nabka is coming?
I wonder if they have any lancets.
Very doubtful. More likely something along the lines of what Yemen has. Or Hezbollah. Iranian designs, perhaps.
Yemen’s source is Iran. Highly likely Iran bankrolling the arms exchanges with many in Middle East. Flush with cash from Russia drone needs and recent $6B being unfrozen.
But they may have US supplied drones, via Ukraine--as other commenters have pointed out.
I see Scott Ritter is already calling this a potential strategic defeat for Israel should Hezbollah jump in, or the even the END if Iran gets involved. I dunno, that's quite a hot hot take.
To me, this analysis of the military situation makes much more sense: https://youtu.be/UtA7v8TyzSI?si=4LKVbIvjM4EkWY9U&t=121

Kinda like opening salvo and tease the tiger then a “let’s all join in” arrangement?
Dot connectors say iran wants to scuttle developing Saudi-Israel peace talks. Saudis have come out blaming Israel. https://twitter.com/afshineemrani/status/1710559314010898776?t=kXgNfylHuP9JipnSNvnyYA&s=19
Does this mean I have to put up another bloody sign on my lawn? I've only just cleared away the "In Fauci we trust!" and "I stand with Ukraine!" ones.
LOL. Doing what it takes to ensure spoiled eggs not thrown on the house/cars eh?
No - but if you’re sick of signs, you can always lower your flag to half mast in honour of Di Fei’s passing…

Yep. Worked on Kibbutz Nitzanim south of Tel Aviv in the early 1980s. Same thing. Maybe they got over-confident.
Another black swan event. I did not see this coming.
Who benefits with the timing?
Open ended checkbook for war mongers.
Ukraine was going to fall apart Russians to tough to beat, go back to the tried and true set the Mideast on fire. They do not vary from the playbook much.
Maybe. Or maybe it's the Russians/Iranians/fill in the gap doing what the neocons have been doing for the last 20 years.

MoA claims this (dating from 10/5) as the impetus for this attack:

People have been asking how Israel could have been caught off-guard so badly. I would suggest that there are some traitors in the IDF and Mossad.
Don't rule out human incompetence. The Israelis are smart but they got caught out by Egypt in '73. They've also been completely distracted by the supreme court issue.
They were to busy protesting in support of the judicial branch.
