You give a country “permission” to use weapons that you are supplying to attack a nuclear power inside it’s national borders and it doesn’t occur to anyone in the State Department that this is generally considered an act of war?
Ever since the beginning of this proxy war, the US and Ukraine have had their collective noses rubbed in failure after failure and miscalculation after miscalculation. The deluded idea that since Putin has not reacted in a significant military manner up to this point, in spite of relentless neocon provocation, he will continue to do so is a fantasy at best and a foolhardy assumption at worst. A foolhardy assumption that could very rapidly morph into an irreversible cascading disaster that engulfs the entire world in nuclear war.
This administration apparently possesses an infinite capacity for stupidity. Unbelievable!
Yes SMH, totally agree. As for “stupidity,” although its written all over Sullivan’s face, I would say that the Neos, dragging along kicking and screaming the hapless, rudderless Euros, have a desire to win, full stop. And if they can’t, take everyone else down with them. This is what frightens me the most, and we see the same all-or-nothing moves playing out in Israel right now. Like a cult of death.
These people are bereft of common sense and possess a total lack of historical perspective. They would be well advised to heed the old adage, “ You can’t do what you can’t do!”
I totally agree with your “cult of death” assessment and the idea that they intend to take everything and everyone down with them.
This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but TGP is reporting that the US and NATO gave Ukraine permission to use F-16’s
to launch attacks inside of Russia!
Is it just me or does this seem like an insane escalation of an already volatile situation. These people are absolutely not going to be satisfied until they start WWlll.
AmericanCardigan mentioned a mole hunt. If she had explosive material she’d use the Overton window to release it right now and implicate all and sundry.
It’s interesting that Kennedy mentioned that Oswald’s ‘defection’ to the Soviet Union was a staged mole hunt, so it’s standard practice.
Over at Red State the NYPost is quoted saying that CBS says they're willing to return Herridge's "personal" material. They ask the obvious question: How do you determine what's "personal" without going through all of it?
This tweet from Turley suggests why I don't think a subpoena (GJ) was used. This probably is not about prosecution. The quick resolution begs the question: Why did they do something so unprecedented in the first place? It sure looks suspicious, and Turley is clearly suspicious, too.
"I am hearing from CBS sources that the network is moving toward a resolution to turn over the files after the outcry. However, the concerns over Herridge’s termination and the network’s handling of her confidential notes continues to raise alarm in the journalistic community."
G'day Mark and all MIH friends. Like an illegal interrogation, it can be about the info that matters. Also, the implication of compromised sources will resonate far and wide. Information control, call it what you want "Mis-Dis-Mal" etc., is an obvious factor. Practically outright censorship, fascist pay to Tech companies to censor or however such squelching is accomplished, it's the results that matter - legal impropriety is of no concern in totalitarian states. What, you gonna complain to the DOJ? About how the DOJ is criminal? This seems to be where we find ourselves in this here USsA in the 21st century. Ouch. Best regards, (WrH)
The war against free speech is as important as the ones in Ukraine and Gaza for anyone who loves freedom. What with this disturbing story and the crazy new "catch-all" speech laws coming into play here in Europe, the Davos maniacs are definitely upping the game. Free speech: time to use it or lose it, folks.
This is legally complicated. It sounds more like a physical search as regards her devices, which would require a warrant rather than a subpoena, unless ...
The claim is made that Herridge had no reasonable expectation of privacy and that all records/data that Herridge *created* were CBS property. A subpoena would require a GJ, which I'm skeptical of. Nor would DoJ want to litigate the issue of ownership.
My guess is that if the seizure is characterized as of records, a National Security Letter would be used. The "stuff" could be examined by the G while Herridge and CBS haggle, and there would be a non-disclosure requirement so CBS could refuse to tell Herridge whether the NSL even existed.
I say underway, but Herridge, hopefully, isn't the only iceberg in their path. Tucker and others, maybe Jay Powell, who knows? But a ruling class takeover is the objective.
Spot on!! The battle for the literal hearts and minds of the “subject population” has many fronts and the one to control “groomed information” is one of the most insidious. And you are also directly over the target regarding acknowledgment of mistakes. “The Russians are on the ropes. The sanctions are devastating the Russian economy. Ukraine just needs a little more money to push things across the line to victory. There’s no question that the US can fight wars on two fronts and prevail. Joe Biden is sharper than a bag of razor blades…….” That’s also why blogs like this are so important to those of us who realize that the information supplied by traditional sources has been doctored, shaped, redacted and just plain fabricated out of whole cloth and can never be trusted.
Just enough time to make copies of everything she had. Like others have said, it's likely that she kept her confidential sources out of the office. I hope that was the case.
A bit O/T, but as it’s the weekend, some good news: the Global South ain’t havin’ it, and warns Americans:

No question it's disturbing.

My guess: They needed a way to separate Herridge and staff from her data for a period of time that might have been greater than just overnight.
And her data may include emails from those with .fbi.gov

I’m afraid we’re going to need more than free speech.
I think her materials are being examined by the DoJ, and that was the reason CBS seized them. There is probably a secret subpoena out there.

I say all this very tentatively.
“National Security”
How convenient. Justifies all kinds of abuse. No questions allowed. No answers given. What a country we’ve become.
I say underway, but Herridge, hopefully, isn't the only iceberg in their path. Tucker and others, maybe Jay Powell, who knows? But a ruling class takeover is the objective.
Two things, I presume:
1) It's the battle to control information flow to the subject population;
2) It's also the drive to force the subject population into conformity to ruling class mandates--so no mistake can ever be acknowledged.

Yeah, see my comment to Yancey.
