Today is a babysitting day, so I want to put out some ideas quickly.
It seems clear that CBS is on shaky legal ground, based on standard practices in the industry/profession. I’m fairly confident that Herridge will ultimately win in any legal dispute, in the sense that she’ll get her property back. That, of course, isn’t the point. The point is that, in the meantime, her work will be reviewed, very possibly copied and retained, by persons unknown.
My guess is that we will, at some point, be presented with a National Security rationale for this. Private political actors could probably be accused of actual criminal actions if they were behind this. However, that will not be the case with National Security officials. Herridge’s confidential sources will have been breaking laws and workplace agreements and policies pertaining to National Security. There is a legal basis for arguing—although it has never been firmly established—that journalists working in this area are also breaking laws. That’s not what the people behind this are concerned about—they will want to stop Herridge short of a public trial.
That leads to the question, Why? To go to these extraordinary lengths—and these are extraordinary lengths to which they’ve gone—there has to be some pretty extraordinary information that needs protecting.
We know that Herridge was working on the “Hunter Biden laptop” story. But that’s a sort of term of art. What that phrase really points to—as we know so well—is the entire nexus of foreign money and US politics. Ukraine, China, we’ve also heard of Kazakhstan and Romania, other places in the Middle East (Qatar, Israel, etc.).
The other side of that coin is the nexus between money in politics and policies of the the American Empire abroad. And here we get into the business of war. War in Ukraine, war in the Middle East, the Israel Lobby, war on China and Russia and Iran.
Maybe it’s too early in the day for me to have picked up on outrage over this case emanating from politicians. I will happily be surprised if this becomes a major scandal upon which bandwagon prominent politicians climb. Happy, but very surprised. My guess is that this is about protecting the Ruling Class, the Establishment, the Deep State. As Mike Benz maintains, democracy has been redefined so that it has now become those ruling governmental institutions and societal institutions that coordinate and control the subject population on behalf of the government. Our elected representatives are part of that cabal—most of them.
What we know about Catherine Herridge’s work is probably the tip of an iceberg. The captain and crew of the Deep State Titanic are taking no chances when it comes to that iceberg drifting into their path. Information must be withheld, most likely by redefining it as misinformation. Or maybe even Russian disinformation—that ploy is already being deployed already for the election. The Ruling Class takeover is well underway.
I say underway, but Herridge, hopefully, isn't the only iceberg in their path. Tucker and others, maybe Jay Powell, who knows? But a ruling class takeover is the objective.
Over at Red State the NYPost is quoted saying that CBS says they're willing to return Herridge's "personal" material. They ask the obvious question: How do you determine what's "personal" without going through all of it?
