On the alleged survivability of Iranian bunkers: https://youtu.be/4H6WPXY3q7g

The unknown is exactly what lies under the surface of the earth at the site of the Fordow nuclear facility in Iran.

The known is the GBU-57 bomb's explosive tonnage, and how it can be delivered to its target. The missile has been tested in various situations, where material compostions were known, and measurements were taken after impact to see the depth reached and size of the 'blast field'.

The US would drop this 30,000-pounder in a place that it 'thinks' will penetrate the earth and the rock, to 'possibly' damage or take out~ a lab, a storage place...exactly what?!

I say: keep your monstrous bombs in storage, leave your expensive and delicate B-2s in Missouri, keep our USAF personnel safe...and let's call the whole thing off!

If the underground facility can be physically captured by special forces, leave a tactical nuke inside, and blow it up remotely. Lots of damage, radioactive for a long time.

Or, skip the nuke. Use a big, dirty bomb.

Easy peasy. Remember when Carter tried a special forces op inside Iran? Good thing Iran doesn't guard it's nuclear facilities.

To Summarize Postol - and simply put

it is unlikely US is able to a) locate and b) get to

the target [ of course they could have dumb luck ]

mountainous region naturally hard rock slab

[ compare to city street flat where Israel US used bunker busters previously

or desert ]

i) they dont know where it actually is -

if they hit spot X above ground [ where they believe it is ]

the 'chamber' ' storage ' may be at point Y (offset) below ground

so it is just a guess

........X..................................

stairs and hallways

..........................Y................

ii) missiles are deflected by composition of rock and ' mountain peak '

the ' front of the missile ' is slowed when it hits the rock, the back of the

missile is still moving at speed - that too can cause deflection or twist

so there is no certain path of the missile once it hits earth

iii) depth, composition of rock and concrete barriers

and design of concrete barriers - barriers may be designed for additional deflection

================= P.S. US is kind of stupid ===========

I can only add

The test sites I quickly reviewed to check terrain seem to indicate US

[ I list a few below ]

have NOT tested in such circumstances - probably because the manufacturer

wants to sell it and not test it in hard rock areas

Nevada Test Site (NTS)/Nevada National Security Site (NNSS):

Tonopah Test Range, Nevada: Where the GBU-28 was tested.

Frenchman Flat,

Mojave Desert:

The newer GBU-57 bunker buster bomb was tested here in March 2024.

Yes the Mojave desert - how does that compare to the mountains if Iran

========================================

GBU testing data is classified with known results / claims of ranging from 140 to 210 feet of penetration.

It is merely my speculation that the US may not have done proper testing and may determine this will not work as planned/

The B22 carries two bombs and drops one on top of the other.

Expand full comment
aDoozy's avatar

Sounds cheaper, but they say there is only one combo for the job: one $20 million GBU-57 bomb carried by a $2 billion B-2 to the target. The B-2 can carry two of the monster bombs to drop, so that would be $40 million in ordnance dropped by the sky-high-priced bomber...manned by two priceless human beings.

And, via jamming GPS, the bombs would rely solely on inertial navigation, i.e., their landing "on top of the other" is improbable.

It would be a lot easier if we got rid of Isreal Nukes and made sure Iran stopped in place.

I wonder if we can just get rid of Netanyahu and then force Israel to negotiate down its terms for survival, with us: U.S. The general population of Americans are not accepting the choice to war. Maybe anti-war protests should start now, first, in front of the White House. MSM would cover that, and Trump would not refuse to acknowledge that. Peaceful anti-war protests, good; although probably the pro-life Gazans and survival-at-any-cost Israel supporters would show up and start a fight.

Let's use this new weapon, the superior one: TCBU 70C. Ted Cruz Bloviation Unit 1970's Canadian .

I'm sure Senator Cruz would propose the use of this weapon because, as he told the whole world while conversing with Tucker Carlson, he, Ted Cruz, is committed to being the leading defender of Israel in the United States Congress.

Fact: TC was voted "biggest asshole" by his Harvard Law classmates. And you can imagine the competition for that title was pretty stiff. Talk about hubris--thinking he could get through that interview without looking like a complete fool.

Ha! Independent corroboration of what 4 of my undergrad buddies (who ended up HLS ‘95 and ‘96) told me at a reunion 10-ish years ago when TC came to national prominence. From everything I’ve seen from him, it absolutely checks out, but I figured that these now big-time Dems (one a sitting Congressman) were just yanking my chain. Tucker’s takedown was a thing of beauty.

In Ukraine, there are numerous documented cases of Russia AD interdicting JDAMs in flight. The GBU 57B is much larger than a JDAM and has an enormous radar signature. Assuming a B2 can get over the target and release, there is a reasonable probability that Iran may also be able interdict it in flight. It wouldn't surprise me if Russian AD specialists have already training their Iranian counterparts in this technique. Both Russia and Iran will go to school on how to interdict this particular munition and then write the book on it for future warfare situations. They are also collecting a lot of data on the radar profile of an F-35 in combat situations. All of this knowledge will be used against Western armed forces in future conflicts.

GPS can be jammed, thereby leading GPS-guided bombs astray, as inertial navigation alone does not cut it.

Tristam, we here have read that Mossad has been fully or partly responsible for assassinations in countries in this world.

It is not unreasonable to think that PDJT is under a threat to his family. If so, the weight of that would account for the noticeable aging of the man within the past year. His face is sagging. Fear will affect a person physically--inside and out.

I am thinking of Thomas Massie's wife Rhonda's sudden death at the age of 51. The public was not told the cause--was just left with questions, and much sympathy for her husband and family.

Ted Cruz, an ostensible “Christian”, takes his cue from Genesis, an acknowledged work of Jewish fiction, rather than Jesus.

What would Jesus do? Ted Cruz has no clue. Neither do any of the so-called “Christian Zionists.”

I do.

And it wouldn’t have anything to do with going to war in support of Israel.

Expand full comment
Joanne C. Wasserman's avatar

Yea, I was disappointed that Tucker Carlson didn't accuse Cruz of being ignorant of his faith, since, whatever the literal words used in the Book of Genesis, for Christians, all of the understanding of the depth of meaning of content of the Old Testament refer to Jesus Christ. Also, Cruz must know there were no "states" or nations throughout the period of Genesis, only tribes and kingdoms.
