Seems like Ukraine has no problems aligning themselves with the lavender mafia whereas Poland is still staunchly Catholic, so it seems natural that they’d align with Germany.

That part of Germany near Poland is and has been Protestant since the 16th century why do you believe they naturally align or are you expressing sarcasm?

If Germany wants to become a major player in Ukraine, let it. It will be only the latest in a long line of disastrous and suicidal decisions taken by the German leadership in the last 20 years. And as for any Leopard factory in Ukraine, it will be destroyed within hours of its opening ceremony by the Russians.

Oh Steg, Ukraine is so over! How ‘bout a pivot to Estonia (population “less than the total Russian armed forces”) and Finland, where all kinds of mischief is being planned to wreak havoc with…pipelines and shipping lanes in the Baltic Sea and the Arctic regions…a lot to unpack in this excellent article:

I know, I know. I'm still trying to get to grips with Queen Victoria dying. My mind works slowly! :). Great article, BTW. Crazy has no limits.

I read these things and just shake my head. I can't fathom the sheer craziness.

Yes, sigh. Their craziness as you say is indeed “fathomless” when it comes to Russia.

LOL! When I wrote that I didn't realize the appropriateness of the word "fathom".

I think ML's out of his depth on this one. That won't stop him making waves as usual.

Yeah!! How many leagues are in a fathom?😜

Expand full comment

Actually a “royal” unit of measure!

Fr Wikipedia: “A fathom is a unit of length in the imperial and the U.S. customary systems equal to 6 feet (1.8288 m), used especially for measuring the depth of water.[1] The fathom is neither an international standard (SI) unit, nor an internationally accepted non-SI unit. Historically it was the maritime measure of depth in the English-speaking world but, apart from within the US, charts now use metres.”

Anyway you put it, our stupidity is bottomless!!

Beyond the geopolitics of energy of this present conflagration, these neocon toadies seem to be saying, energy for me but not for thee! I wonder what Nuland’s electric bill looks like? Any number of gadgets humming along, a giant freezer to house the never-ending supply of cup-cakes her oven(s) turn out; multiple Dysons (upstairs/downstairs) whirring, washing machines churning, dishwasher humming to wash all that breakfast lunch and dinner ware - not to mention the energy required for the outside - perhaps now a snowblower (lawnmower in the summer) might be in use so the 2 gas-guzzling Lexuses can get out in the chilly mornings…compare all that consumption to the amount of energy used by, say, a couple in a flat in Kyiv or a rural farm family in western Ukraine…or, heck, a family living in Paris where energy costs have soared! Stomach turning!

So the Neocons threaten Turkey (a NATO member and the controller of the Bosporus Strait, and a major player in Syria) and advocate a direct attack on it precisely at the time when Erdogan is threatening to attack Israel, while they know that Erdogan would love to reconstitute the Ottoman Empire. So, I guess they don't care about NATO because they don't care about Article 5 or Turkey leaving NATO, and they don't care about the ability to counter Russia's military and naval presence in Syria or the Eastern Med. And they don't care about Israel (even though it is a western colonial establishment) and they certainly don't care about a "backwater" called Poland, other than sacrificing it for their own purposes and the greater good of Germany, even though (or perhaps because) it has been the matchstick for war after disastrous war over the last centuries. Well, I don't call myself Dissonant1 for nothing... but I think these people are horrifically nuts.

I am still coming to terms with the bare fact we get to decide who ships carbon fuels to whom.

...to promote transatlantic energy security.

Trying to wrap my mind around this one. I don't know why this should startle me after all that we have witnessed over the past few years, but still: blowing up someone else's market in the name of security.

I know, wrong definition of security... they're just trying to secure market share.

Still...

Bulgaria could be replaced with a pipeline route through Macedonia, but I guess Greece won’t go along with that.

Poland and Germany are two nations I increasingly care less about. They seem bent on self-destruction and are beyond our help.

With the Germans, it's all about their massive guilt complex from WW2. They will do anything to self-abase.

Agreed except my mind boggles when I think who it might be that holds Zelensky for war crimes. Certainly not the Western governments, as they would be trying themselves along with him. Honestly, I think either Zelensky will find exile in Bolivia or some such place; or else the Azov Brigade will see to his end.
