Mark, this is slightly (but not completely) off-topic, so I hope you'll indulge me. Alex Krainer just posted a brilliant article called "The Collapse of Britain". Its a deep dive into the UK's financial woes & ties to Ukraine, civil unrest & riots, but he also touches on other current world events over the past several weeks. I have to wonder how far along the US & the rest of the EU are on this slippery financial slope to disaster. I thought folks here would find it interesting reading:

Interested to see how the French people handle this. There is no provision that I am aware of for Macron to be impeached or removed, which takes a 2/3 majority which is not likely. Any talk in France, as there is in the US, about civil war?

Quite literally he/they have shown that elections in the West are now “deepfakes,” and the process and results do not matter. Anyone care? Just go about your business?

The obvious question is whether this is possible in the US? Well, did this just happen at the both the DNC and RNC? There was no discussion of the party platforms. Those that participated were told to vote yes or get out. Took all of 30 mins.

The Dems just short circuited their primaries.

Do Americans still “believe” in elections? Do we think the results make a difference? Would we do anything if Trump “wins” but is not recognized as President? Is our Constitution more than a “parchment barrier” at this point?

No one in the US believes what is being pulled over them. This lack of trust is going to be a real “problem” going forward.

The French tend to think of themselves as “philosophers.” This is a way of avoiding the real issues. Americans tend not to be philosophers.

How did France the country of liberty and equality now become a country of tyranny? Is this the new course for Western democracies, you lose the election, but you refused to give up power. Now, where have we heard this before? Those were the accusations made against Donald Trump and yet he gave up power and left the stage for the Democrats. The question is will the Democrats do the same if they lose this election ?

Will the labor party in England give up power if they have to call a snap election and they lose? This scenario could be played out in numerous places in the west, and you can only imagine the convoluted arguments to justify all of it. We’re saving you from yourself because you couldn’t make the correct decision.

So back to France democracy means nothing there. Macron could lose the election, but he will stay the head of the government and run the assembly, regardless, as to what the people of the country want. We all know that the country was ready to move into a different direction and that was denied them.

If a revolution were to break out in France, it would not be a surprise, they are at the boiling point and micron has made a faithful and disastrous decision.

Right. Giving up power voluntarily has never been part of the Left''s playbook. Perhaps back in the days of leftish liberalism, but not for the real Left. Simply because they're in this to change the world, not just to govern for the common good as envisioned by the citizenry. How this plays out depends on a lot of factors, but a refusal to leave the stage is certainly a possibility.

I wonder if this was the straw that broke the camels back, and explains the jailing of the telegram founder?

Or is macron worried about the coming demonstrations against his rule from the left?

Let's add another factor: Telegram is VERY popular in Africa, especially in the areas where the French were told to F-off & get out.

Seeing as the French are pretty-much the global standard-bearers at striking/protesting everything under the sun, I'm surprised not to see more of them out in the streets. Perhaps they are, and it's underreported, or, possibly, they are somewhat cowed at the thought of striking directly at the very heart of power. I have no idea on this one.

Korsia points out that "Moreover, all the countries that made agreements with Israel, including Arab countries, have not denounced these agreements. That is to say, everyone would be quite happy if Israel finished the job."

Business before pleasure? Not unlike how the US, having financialized the economy, gorges itself on Chinese manufactures while preening about our clean air and water, all the while preparing for a very carbon-intensive war with China. Or so we say.

As to finishing the job, this has been the conventional wisdom. Whether it is wise, it is widely understood. Alastair Crooke suggested the Israeli plan is to finally force the remaining Gazans into Egypt, in an interview with Judge Nap. In the interview, Crooke said the photo in Monday's WSJ of a drone destroyed, was old. The photo is represented by Getty Images as having been taken on August 25th. Crooke's point, repeated by Judge Nap, was that Israel and its media allies are lying, and all I can rationally say is that both sides may be lying to me.

I started to listen to an interview yesterday in which the interviewee began by carefully defending Strauss as a great philosopher who, because he was writing under threat of persecution, had to cloak his ideas... and I couldn't finish listening because how does one distinguish esoterism from sophistry? Will try to finish later.
