LJ's surmise re the big announcement to come--Iran promising not to make a nuke--seems plausible to me.
Re the climbdown from the war on Yemen, I wonder--strictly a guess--whether Trump did this the way he did--without informing Israel--for this reason: The genocide and starvation campaign were getting very bad publicity, but Israel was stiffing Trump on his weak calls to stop. So he did the ceasefire to pressure Israel.
'Russia has used Iran as an expendable “card” in international forums for years. According to a survey by the Copenhagen-based Foundation for the Alliance of Democracies, more than 50 percent of Iranians have a negative view of Russia, while only 15 percent have a relatively positive view of it.'
This is a completely different take on the nuclear negotiations. I did not know that Russia and Iran fought two wars in the first 30 years of the 19th century.
that the last thing Russia wants is Iran with nukes. -- agree wholeheartedly in past tense perhaps though --- I think Russia's mind may change now - very hard to know -- but the question is at least asked not - when it was not asked previously
I think it was macgregor that pointed out india pakistan both having nukes may well be the reason they have skirmishes but not all out war --- I imagine the US pushed the pendulum too hard and Russia and China may well be changing their minds or asking the question - is it time for Iran to have nukes - sad but true we all know they had the JCPOA so this is the US own doing
The article was interesting, especially as it came from an Iranian perspective. I still maintain that an Iran that tilted westward would be a danger to Russia because it would help encircle Russia.
the article is interesting but I have my doubts much of it seems well outdated and no longer correct eg: "According to a Gallup poll in 2011, only 13 percent of Iranians approve of Russia's role in the world, while 52 percent have a negative view of it." now why would they even bother with such outdated information I bet that is 80 % approve now maybe 90 %
I took the time to read the article again and it is just filled with errors and misrepresentations - here is one : " Although the Biden and Trump administrations have instituted wide-ranging sanctions against Iran and against its oil customers, Tehran’s primary source of budgetary revenue, Iran’s economic woes are substantially the result of its own financial mismanagement and corruption in the banking sector. "
It's so false so wrong - laughable - it appears written as a US funded think tank - sanctions are obviously the main source of their issues and sanctions are a main source of corruption / black market.
Though as you pointed out, the topic itself, Iran having Nukes is interesting to China and Russia and I agree with you
It succeeded in adding to the deficit/national debt, losing some planes, drones and missiles, and adding rotational stress to our sailors' tours of duty.
So now, if the Houthis attack a US ship--or a ship from any country?-Trump can turn around and accuse the "booties" of reneging on their capitulation and their admission of defeat. Where is there any documentation or witness to validate that Trump is telling the truth?
I don't really understand Trump's statement: "they have capitulated, but more importantly, they we will take their word they say they will not be blowing up ships anymore,"
Have the Houthis "blown up" any US ships? This is the first I have heard that a (US) ship was blown up. Quite a huge US pummeling on Yemen in a short amount of time if no ships have been blown up: "The U.S. since mid-March has hit some 800 Houthi targets, according to an April 27 statement by U.S. Central Command." (from Fox News story included in Mark Wauck's post).
The US has targeted Yemeni citizens just as Ukraine has targeted citizens in Russia and in eastern Ukraine and Crimea.
Until the Houthis say so, its all wishful talk on the part of the rattled Yanks, I am afraid.. One thing for sure, the US establishment is in disarray . The signs are that there is a collapse underway.. How long it'll take , it is hard to guess..
It was Trump that capitulated. Houthis said several weeks ago that they would stop shooting at the US if the US stopped bombing them. I guess that's a partial capitulation. But they also said that they will stop missling Israel when Israel stops the genocide. Which aint gonna happen.
So I guess both sides stood down a little. But the US has to be mighty embarrassed. About 1billion$ spent to accomplish basically nothing.

No one else seems to be trying to stop the genocide in Gaza. Go Houthis!
Exactly. But the Houthis are the terrorists!

Perhaps I could've made that a bit more clear. I know I've stated repeatedly that the last thing Russia wants is Iran with nukes.

a 2011 poll you've got to be kidding me
right

Could it be that the navy’s AD missiles are depleted and it’s time to declare victory and return home?
Or the US navy has run out of brake pads for its aircraft and tractor wheels.
Lol, those Russian tractor tire sanctions really are biting!
agreed This looks like a great big excuse to have the Truman limp back home after accomplishing absolutely nothing -----
Not nothing.
It succeeded in adding to the deficit/national debt, losing some planes, drones and missiles, and adding rotational stress to our sailors' tours of duty.
Possible translation or interpretation misunderstanding.
Loose translation from English "capitulated" to Yemeni Arabic "roundly spanked our western behinds"
Correct headline:
Trump Orders Halt To Yemen Bombings, Houthis Have "roundly spanked our western behinds"
Larry Johnson quoted the Middle Eastern Spectator that Trump threw Israel under the bus, so at least there's that.
Thanks for the clarifications, Mark.
Trump has proven to be a dangerous liar in just a matter of months in office.. The American people are in trouble..
