I'm debating the 'Putin is a criminal madman bent on restoring imperial Russia through territorial expansion' case vs. 'Russia was justifiably provoked for decades before it started its SMO in Ukraine' case with an 'American Patriot' friend. Can anyone point me to a good and comprehensive written analysis of the 'Russia was justifiably provoked' case? Thanks.

This piece from Counterpunch (well named) should do it, as well as any interview directly of Professor Stephen F. Cohen!

And then there’s this from little-known but extremely well-written and researched Consortium News…lays it all out from a to z!

I must admit, I was reflexively all in for Ukraine at the start. Then I saw Mearsheimer's 2015 YouTube lecture on NATO expansion, where he precisely foresaw the future as if the SMO started the day prior. Turned me around 180°. A true WTF moment for me. Putin's POV is not difficult to grasp.

Tx, Mike. I'm still listening, but Johnson's point about the CIA doc seems quite telling.
