Various corners of the internet are reading a lot (way too much, IMO) into Patriarch Kirill's inaugural blessing today (below) as some sort of spiritual green light to unleash holy hell on the Ukes and their allies. This is the problem--relations have deteriorated below even the Sovietologists-reading-tea-leaves levels of the Cold War, such that wild speculation exists where, if we had any diplomats left at this point, we could just #$#%ing talk to the Russians. Their leadership has been very clear in all of this to anyone willing to listen.

(Blessing as reported in The Guardian (yeah, I know...)):

In a subsequent blessing held in a church, the Russian Patriarch Kirill compared Putin to the legendary medieval prince Alexander Nevsky, saying that he “did not spare his enemies, but he became famous as a saint.

“The head of state must sometimes make fateful and formidable decisions,” he said. “And if such a decision is not made, the consequences can be extremely dangerous for the people and the state. But these decisions are almost always connected with victims.”

"The Russians can easily use Iskander Missiles with conventional warheads to destroy any facility in that town."

Yup. I really don't see Russia initiating the use of nuclear weapons, tactical or otherwise. Ever. Especially when they can respond with conventional weapons to Dresden-ize any target in Ukraine they want.

When you are winning, and when you are going to win as long as you stay the course, you don't go and risk everything with a nuclear escalation. You play smart. Putin is too smart and his government is too smart.

Now, as for our folks...

Another thing this ever-worsening crisis shows is the complete “out for ice-cream” absence of leadership. I think it was L Johnson - or Col Macgregor quite possibly, who said that if we had any (leadership) the prez would have picked up the phone and told Macron to STFU.

I think Luongo is getting too emotional about us getting too emotional. I believe most of us have our big boy/girl pants on and can check our emotions quite well, at the same time recognizing that we have some bias which we are quite capable of calibrating by ourselves. And I say that while generally agreeing with Luongo about everything.

I seems the west is beginning to favor terrorism by attacking civilian targets in Russia as a result of the asymmetric capabilities between Russia and the west. The west believes they have to moral superiority (they don’t) which justifies such terrorist acts.

Even if Trump is elected and take office (I have my doubts) he probably believes the US military is capable beyond its abilities and could end up putting the U.S. in a very precarious situation

Article is Limited hangout on Ukraine strategy. It brings up the issues of attritional warfare, but ignores how Russia has mastered it, and Ukraine is suffering massive losses.

Link from moon over Alabama. Simplicius may have also mentioned it.

I did not realize is that with similar industrial capacity 8 T-34 were produced per 1 Panzer. I assume this goes into hours needed to build.

And the reliability was 80/90% vs 35%.

But the Panzer had a much higher kill ratio and were more capability.

The US tanks in WW2 prioritized high volume production. Interesting how the U.S. tank design has changed to high ability with low quantity.

I think it was The Duran commented the French President Macron has seen the need to project a tough guy image since his party is trailing in the Eu elections. The picture of him boxing, threats of French troops to Russia, etc.

Yep. Either that or he is insane or he is paid lavishly for what he says.
