Moon of Alabama points to some interesting new polling results that deal with support for the war on Russia—or lack of support. Regarding the state of opinion in the US there are two polls—one in Newsweek and one commissioned by CNN/Time. Of the two polls, the second is by far the most informative. If you read down into the details of the polls what you come up with as the big picture is something like this:
France carries the bulk of Western risk in the first instance: loss of cheap uranium and gold directly, but talso further fracturing of its domestic politics along racial lines. It can ill afford to further incense its substantial black community by playing the colonialist card.
Inflaming anti-colonialist sentiment anywhere serves both Russia and China since neither has significant history of global colonisation and there is much residual anger across the globe at European colonisation history and practices.
I agree, Husky. It's not just the racial angle for France, either. Their whole society is very febrile at present. They have a few years' reserves of yellow cake, but any increase in fuel prices or shortages over winter could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Includes good information on why the French control of the colonial (cfa) franc is so important to France. And note ecowas that is threatening an invasion, has many of the same countries that use the cfa franc.
“Most people just want to be told what to do. They don't want to have to think for themselves.”
Unfortunately, I believe that is the root of our problems today.
In “their democracy” that those in power are trying to protect by whatever means necessary, they collect enough people that just want to be told what to do, plus those that want in on the scam, plus the creation of however many extra ballots it takes to maintain their control. The looting of the carcass of America continues.
Re the polls. It might be dawning on those Polish young men that they could at some point be in the trenches fighting the Russians. Hence the lowering enthusiasm for a scrap. As for the Americans, they are like the Brits. They look down on the Russians and probably believe that a few snippets of quality intelligence and some CIA-type whizzkiddery will be enough to bring them down.
Niger is a bit player, but then, when all is said and done, so is Ukraine. They are just battlegrounds in the greater war between the Neocons and the new kids on the bloc. However, as for the coup in Niger being a possible game-changer, it's not as far-fetched as it seems. Look at one of the big globalist nations involved, France. She happily canceled her yellowcake contracts with nasty old Russia because she knew that she could steal it from her former colonies like Niger. Then this happens! Nuclear power is essential for France. If there any problems, the economy goes down. France already has a number of its nuke power stations offline because of age problems, and some were shut down recently because of strike action against pension reforms. The country is also a powder keg of anger and hate; if electricity supplies break down over the next few winters, Macron can pack his bags.
I read an article just the other day that promoted bringing back the military draft to make up for the manpower requirements the recruiters are not bringing into the services. I can't recall where I read it or who authored it (may have been a CFP link) but someone out there realizes the service branches cannot continue given the current state of recruiting without some type of intervention. Bringing back any version of selective service would be a political nightmare in my opinion, but I can see GOP war hawks getting onboard so long as it isn't their offspring being called up, rather than let Biden own this disaster he created.
I’d like to see a poll that asks if you or son/daughter is ready willing and able to sign up to fight in whatever wear the pollsters are talking about?

The Senate of Nigeria denied the President of the country the right to use the Nigerian Armed Forces to conduct a military operation in Niger.
Who will lead the ECOWAS invasion?
Wouldn't it be cool if our Constitution had some provision like that?
The US spent $100 million on a military base in Niger?
And other countries in West Africa are making threats including invasion, sanctions, and a no fly zone.

Fascinating read.

More escalation by the West, sigh.
Russia will retaliate.

The pollsters should definitely ask Nuland, Sullivan and all the neocons that question. In fact, Sullivan at least might still be of military age.
I think the main point here is that people like Nuland don't give a damn about polls or what the peasants think. They will go for war anyway.
