Thomas Massie (on X):

"Regarding U.S. activity in Yemen: I recently said to watch for a new military engagement to compensate for the pullback in Ukraine. The Military Industrial Complex demands about $50B per year from our government, above and beyond what is necessary to defend our own country."

March 10: "The Military Industrial Complex demands about $50 Billion per year in war. As soon as we quit spending $50b per year in Afghanistan, we started spending $50b per year in Ukraine.

Watch where the next $50b per year goes when we stop sending it to Ukraine. The MIC always is hungry."

Sorry I am not on X so can't provide a direct link. Does anyone else find it troubling in light of these statements that President Trump has promised to primary Massie? It seems like we need more rather than fewer truth tellers in Congress.

What I concluded from Mark's post is that PDJT is:

1. Vain: "Trump’s egocentric mind took the easy route"

2. a Bully: "punching the Houthis"

3. Imperious: "Trump’s demand was for Iran to bargain away its sovereignty."

He is no Sergey Lavrov.

Very soon it will be immaterial whose side of the court the ball is in because Putin will own the whole damned court. I hope that the behind the scenes discussions between the US and Russians are going to produce something more substantial, but there is always the danger that Trump's big mouth will undo any gains. As an end note, is anyone else noticing that after less than two months in power, Trump's domestic agenda - the reason people voted for him - has been almost totally overshadowed by his foreign buffoonery?

I'm glad you broached this topic.

Remember when Trump and Biden met in the Oval Office and they both had big smiles on their faces? Remember when Jill Biden wore red on election day? Remember all the times Joe undercut Harris during the campaign? Joe is a scorned man.

I'm probably way off here, but I'm going to float a trial balloon. If Trump pursues these pardons, Joe could possibly say I didn't approve one of them. Remember that before the election, Trump said he thought Hunter shouldn't be prosecuted. He stated that he (Trump) would pardon Hunter.

Food for thought.

There is really no reason for Biden to speak out about this other than spite toward the Obama-ites and the Dem party in general for the way they treated him. But spite and revenge can be powerful motivations and he can always plead "non compos mentis." "Did I say that? I don't remember signing anything. I don't think I did."

Trump can’t undo these pardons. It would be up to the courts.

Normally, you're completely correct.

But what if Biden flatly states he didn't grant them?

Jill Biden all but stated the friendship with Pelosi is over. He didn't take kindly to being put out to pasture. He's got little to lose if someone else actually granted pardons in his name.

I'd guess Biden will be given $$$$$ to stay quiet.

Nothing. I was implying with subtle but rapier like irony that she was probably a right winger. Rather like whenever a car here in Europe is driven into a crowd of Christmas shoppers we say the driver must have been a Quaker or an Amish.

Thanks for clearing up the intent of your comment, Steghorn.

For years the Marxists demonized the JBS--actually successful in getting many to believe that it was a Communist organization...a total opposite of who they are!

In the 1980s, you should have seen my mother blanch when I praised their mission.

Most pragmatic (realistic) scenario and the best case one as well, assuming he is not under "political" pressure/influence that is determinative of his actions. I appreciate you sketching out my fondest hopes.
