Breitbart:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved Friday’s airstrike on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon, from his hotel room in New York City prior to his speech to the United Nations General Assembly. The Prime Minister’s Office released a photograph that it said showed Netanyahu approving the massive airstrike. The massive attack targeted Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut. It was not clear at the time of the photo’s release whether Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had survived the attack. Netanyahu apparently delivered his address knowing that the attack was under way.

Ok so the US will not directly intervene if the war is between Hizbullah and Israel only but if Iran joins in then we will... Israel has climbed up the escalatory ladder almost every day this week and so far the response has been escalatory in terms of the targets and distance from the border but not in scale (although the blows delivered may be more extensive as Israel is in complete media blackout). Iran has also not yet retaliated for the assassination in their capital.

As much as our observer bias is toward revenge and major fireworks I don’t see this escalating to an attack on the Knesset or Dimona, even though that’s possible. If Nasrallah was killed though the bigger missiles may come out, but what I can’t gather from the available information is whether the big bunkers and their launch sites are single use or somehow survivable after what’s sure to be major retaliation from Israel.

Also I can’t tell if Hizbullah has been harmed in the slightest by all this. Surely they knew Israel would hit their bunker. Clearly Israel has moles but they could be double agents and feeding old locations. It’s annoying to think that even when all of this is over we will never know many of these details.
