My assumption is that Mike Johnson (R-LA), who is currently running for the Speakership of the House, will also go down to defeat. Nevertheless, in the interests of being clear about what kind of politicians are unacceptable for the Speakership we should explore his positions. No surprises:
Joey Mannarino @JoeyMannarinoUS
Meet Mike Johnson - the fourth Speaker Designate for the House, receiving 127 votes from the GOP conference.
Mike has a Liberty Score of 74%.
He’s from the state of Louisiana and has served in Congress since 2017. His voting record is mostly solid.
He was instrumental in getting the Texas Amicus Brief going in 2020 and voted AGAINST certifying the fraudulent 2020 election.
He has not voted in favor of any funding for Ukraine other than the initial funding bill.
He supported Trump’s ban on terror-prone nations.
He served as a member of Trump's legal defense team during both the 2019 and 2020 Senate impeachment trials
He’s extremely conservative on social issues. In 2022, he introduced the Stop the Sexualization of Children Act, which would prohibit federally funded institutions from promoting child sexual izarían [sic] and transgenderisation.
He’s personal friends with Amy Coney Barrett.
He’s actually a great pick, though we just don’t hear much about him.
I like Mike. How about you?
Sounds good. Which means he’s unacceptable. Hakeem Jeffries, speaking on behalf of RINOs everywhere, explains:
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said on CNN that Johnson "appears to be an extreme-right wing ideologue," citing Johnson's previous positions on abortion, Social Security, and the 2020 election.
Where is Johnson on the current crisis in the Middle East?
Mike Johnson’s statement of solidarity regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict
That should be good enough for the DC establishment, but the rest won’t wash.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m increasingly with the group that thinks we’ll see an attempt at McCarthy Redux.
He just got elected. https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/mike-johnson-elected-house-speaker-ending-22-days-of-paralysis-5516587
I’m surprised he got elected. My guess the eGOP finally figured out a candidate they backed could not win.
Trump killed the candidacy of the Rino yesterday, Tom Emmer.
