I just picked this up via Don Surber. How do you argue against this? Notice how broadbased this view is, and that 38% of Dems agree. Next question: Who will thank the Zhou regime and their party for bringing America to this level? Thanks for reading Meaning In History! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
Welcome to the 3rd World, via TGP--this would only be justified by claiming Trump is a flight risk:
President Trump on Monday said the FBI seized his three passports in its raid of his Mar-a-Lago residence.
“Wow! In the raid by the FBI of Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three Passports (one expired), along with everything else. This is an assault on a political opponent at a level never seen before in our Country. Third World!” Trump said on his Truth Social page on Monday.
I would like to encourage Mark and his readers to indulge me on this site in a further exploration of Alexander Solzhenitsyn's critique of the West and what it means to us today. I am grateful to Mark for allowing this commenter (me) to hijack his blog to pursue a somewhat off-topic and independent inquiry. I am also grateful to Mark’s most intelligent and critical readers for taking this subject matter under consideration, knowing that it entails a deeply unpopular, painful and somewhat risky investigation.
On Saturday I commented here that I have been making my way through Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago and, more or less on my own, saw numerous connections between the historical Soviet Union and the government tyranny we see today in the United States.
Commenter dad29 reminded me yesterday that Solzhenitsyn, too, saw the similarity between the Soviet Union and the modern United States, or, perhaps more accurately, the disconnect between stated values and practices in the United States. He pointed out Solzhenitsyn's commencement address at Harvard on June 8, 1978 (it was in 1978 not 1997) where Solzhenitsyn explicitly pointed these concerns out…and suffered a firestorm of disapproval from the powers that be, the greatest beneficiaries of liberty, freedom and the pursuit of happiness in the United States: our academic and government elites and their captured press.
For readers interested in a deeper dive into Solzhenitsyn’s thinking, here are some links to his Harvard address and a ‘reflection’ on the address which he wrote later in 1978 (republished in the National Review in 2018):
I do not mean to suggest that Solzhenitsyn perfectly understood America or that his diagnosis in 1978 exactly reflects an accurate explanation for what we are seeing and experiencing today. But I do find Solzhenitsyn’s critique helpful to me in finding some kind of clarity in my own observations and thinking about where we are today. I am probably far less ‘spiritual’ than Solzhenitsyn (or Mark!), but I do agree with him (them) that there is a higher order of self-governance than our Western reliance on individual rights and freedoms, and enforcement of laws (or a rules-based order imposed by an elite) and economic success in producing a just State.
I have come to believe, somehow, that Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, as well as the rulers of Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Hungary and many other states, as well as, improbably, the imperfect Donald J. Trump in many respects, probably agree.
This is in many respects horrifying, since I am now far to old to deal with the consequences of seeing my whole framework of belief destroyed and have far too little time left to rebuild my belief system to reflect the realities that are now apparent and confronting us with real dangers.
Speaking of hysteria, Margot Cleveland seems to have found the person who set the whole Mar-a-Lago raid off, starting at the time of first Jan 6 and then the inauguration:
Records Suggest A Backbench Bureaucrat’s Partisan Grievance Spurred The FBI’s Nakedly Political Raid On Trump
I would not argue with a fool while they are busy being foolish.
I think it is very sad that binary politics grips all 5-Eyes countries and all representatives only do what their overlords dictate. There is no left and right in reality. There is only obedience to a globalist agenda which operates under the radar, sowing division and hysteria to conceal its existence.
The evidence is there, if you know where to look, but neither left nor right is wise enough to dig for it and, even when presented with it, they seem incapable of acting to curtail it.
Ok, if that’s how voters really feel, then how in hell does China Mitch think it’s gonna be so hard to sweep the House and Senate?
Honestly, these folks make Boss Tweed and the boys at Tamanny Hall look like a bunch of Sunday school teachers!!

The magic (genius?) of President Trump. Watch their credibility sink and sink and sink, til they have none left at all for taking this guy on.

I highly recommend reading these two pieces.

Look at those percentages. I never cease to be amazed at the ignorance of the American people. At least those who respond to these polls.
