RE: Naomi Wolfe and the strong gods. Leanne Payne was a C. S. Lewis scholar who, through her participation in the Catholic charismatic renewal, was given a ministry of healing to men and women in bondage to sin, particularly to those who suffer from the homosexual neurosis. Her meetings would consist of lectures concerning the symbolic realm of masculine and feminine, the nature of reality as incarnational, and the necessity of radical obedience to Jesus. The lectures would usually be followed by a time of prayer. Leanne encouraged those seeking healing to pray prayers renouncing Baal and Ashtoreth, as she had discerned curing the course of her ministry that persons in bondage to sexual sin were in fact worshipping those gods. Ms. Wolfe is on to something.

"The notion of “as long as it takes” is in direct opposition to the repeated leaks that US support for Ukraine will basically end in the summer. "

Assumes facts not in evidence. Ukraine may not make it until summer, and if it does, I don't see why the people in charge would be any more willing to accept failure and its consequences than they are now. By summer, assuming the war is still going on, our sunk cost will be that much greater. Will they walk away from that? Will anyone be able to make them?

Reminded here of your coverage of Dreher's "Cardinal Screwtape" piece several weeks back, I genuinely wanted to thank you, Mark, for your recommendation to me of Dawson's "Progress and Religion." An exceptional work, its been tremendously helpful in giving some structure (fortification, really) to a set of beliefs, thoughts, conclusions, etc. (essentially, a worldview) I already deeply held about our religion, history and culture but somehow couldn't really organize or articulate. Much appreciated!!

Just to add to the “what fresh new hell is this?” category in your potpourri roundup, it appears the dashing Sunak pushed King CIII to shake hands with Ursula of Belgium in order to do a deal on the lingering issues surrounding the N Ireland Protocol, (Brexit to us commoners!), thereby arousing the ire of the English people who support Brexit and….the Monarchy! Well, a very dangerous handshake…and this question from a former Brexiteer MP whose answer we know:

“But basically ask yourself this. We are the country that fought the Second World War, who stood up to dictators, and are we really now that same country which is grateful for concessions from a foreign power passing law which binds us?"

I listened to a Duran segment on that a couple of days ago. Mercouris also thought this was very dangerous, but didn't suggest that it could endanger the entire institution. I wonder.

I also heard that part - “but anyway…!” We shall see…

In another two years, will Chicagoans be saying Lightfoot was a lightweight? Let's go Brandon! Sounds a bit like the Hochul-for-Cuomo swap. Frying pan to fire, something like that. An old story.

US elites including Soros took over fragile, newly independent Russia in early 1990s and left it for dead. Two articles, "Harvard Boys Do Russia," 5/14/1998, Janine R. Wedel.. Another article describes "economic genocide" and "man-made famine" committed by US elites against defenseless Russian people, Bill Clinton laughed as US "stuffed shit down Yeltsin's throat."...9/9/2016, “Clinton and Russia: Has US Media Forgotten the 1990s?“ New Eastern Outlook, Caleb Maupin. As to Soros, thousands of articles have been written over decades describing his financing the destruction of humanity, esp. in the US. As Tucker Carlson said on his show on 8/4/2022, not a single member of the political class has said a word against Soros until DeSantis did on 8/4/22, when he removed a Soros backed (per NY Times) Florida prosecutor, Andrew Warren, even sent law enforcement to remove the guy, then on national tv publicly named Soros, describing how he's financed many candidates eager to ignore laws. (I understand DeSantis isn't going to close down the Pentagon which I think must be done, but I was happy that he publicly took action against Soros and named him on tv ). https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2022/08/05/not-fooling-around-desantis-sent-police-to-remove-soros-backed-prosecutor-n1618590....Tucker You Tube clip 8/4/22, re DeSantis removing Soros prosecutor @4:10...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frY6vIIS_UQ..."George Soros has been creating Chaos for Decades"

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. Its the truth. Its how we roll.

I would add to your reading list two superb articles in Institutional Investor. Must reading for anyone who wants to understand how the US elites really feel about Russia:

Has US Media Forgotten the 1990s?

For sure Russians and Putin haven't forgotten. Nor have the Chinese forgotten their own history with the West (and Japan) going back at least to the Opium Wars.

Millions of decent people around the world are waiting for the day when Soros croaks. A man of pure evil.

It's hard to understand why the Good Lord has let him stick around so long. We know the enemy won't claim his Captain's soul while he's still useful.

Horrible about SWIFT and Vatican, I didn't know. Reminds me of Canadian Truckers and supporters having their bank accounts frozen. The same people were probably behind both, eg, UK monarchy.

One way to look at it is that SWIFT did this at the macro level, bit of a blunt instrument. CBDC would do it at the micro level if need be, down to the individual level.

Wow, I never heard that before about Benedict and SWIFT. Did you already know about that?

Yes. That's been "out there" for a long time. Since it happened, since the fact that the ATMs at the Vatican were shut down gave it away. It's simply that only a few people put the two together--SWIFT and the resignation. I'm not telling you anything new.

Exceptional post. Provides further insight into the bigger picture. Thx for the info on the actions of SWIFT towards The Vatican prior to B16’s resignation.

Once upon a time I found an old saying in an old book somewhere that dealt with Difficult Beginnings

You’ve got a profusion of elements struggling to take form

The new environment, the New World order, has yet to materialize

Confusion surrounds attempts to master it

The foundation for new ventures must be consolidated

You need to work with able people

Struggles will exist within yourself as values change

Confusion, indecision, new tastes, desires

Look outside yourself for guidance

Weather the storm & maintain your principles

The core course for Western civilization was developed by Columbia University back in 1919 for the US military

Which was then used by Ivy League and upper crust schools for educating all of the bright young people of the industrial aristocracies created by World War I as the old kingdoms fell.

A guy by the name of Benjamin Whorf wrote a paper back in 1941 that said , if we make it to the other side of World War II that Western civilization will have to look at the foundations of its thinking.

The neocons , their parents & their grandparents , causing us all the problems, got their thinking from these universities mentioned above.

It all gets deeper

I think of all of the outrages it is the sexualization and corruption of our children that angers and sickens me the most. I keep wondering where all of these "monsters" have come from, that they take pleasure in soiling the innocent. What is wrong with democratic or any parents today that they would vote for political leaders of their school boards, or city, state, and nation who ignore and/or encourage the trans agenda or sexualized stories for grade school children? Have they lost their minds?

Wow. Paprocki is currently the bishop here in Springfield, but he grew up in the neighborhoods of Chicago. He’s old school. He’s no nonsense. We are fortunate to have him here as our bishop.

Paprocki stuck his head up in 2020 and set an explicit policy for his diocese that affirms Catholic teaching on marriage and sexuality in all pastoral functions. I'm pleased to note that Sample has finally in January 2023 written a similar defense for Portland (Western Oregon). Not sure what the tally is across the USCCB.

Just this past weekend I finished re-reading Athanasius: and the Church of Our Time, written by Bishop Graber in 1973. Short text, easy read. Wikipedia says he's a "conspiracy theorist". Ha. The synod on synodality is predicted accurately, as part of the process whereby the Church is subsumed into a "synarchy" of global governance.
