As to the voters, flitting from an anti-war Republican to an anti-war Democrat, that's an exercise in futility.
I reside in Missouri's 2nd Congressional District. We've had Ann Wagner since 2013. She blows whichever way the wind goes. I argue that's its in primaries and caucuses where we have to effect change. Sending her to Congress for six terms, what kind of change do Missouri voters expect?
Multiply that by 435 congressional districts and 100 senatorial seats.
I noted that event when it first occurred. You're right that that, among other events, could have been triggering. It marked a further solidifying of the Russia-China-Iran partnership.
I saw this morning that Vietnam has now joined BRICS in some sort of cooperative status--not full membership. Vietnam has been heavily lobbied by the US as a proxy against China. Another Trump failure.
Thank you, so much, for that Schryver post of relevant history. Going further back to the overthrow of Mohammed Mossadegh and installation of the Shah, completed by training his Savak, wouldn't, IMO, be overkill, despite the distance in time. It's of a piece.
Blessings and Gratitude for my morning "cup of Truth" ......and, for including Tucker's, "Tewanda!!!" moment with befuddled and embarrassed, Ted Cruz ..... "mop the floor"..... "paint the fence" ..... "wax the car" ..... :)
But will there be "hell to pay" this time? He's also just tweeted "Nobody knows what I'm going to do". Trump sounds completely insane and out of control.
In terms of politics, Trump has set the populist movement back decades. I seriously doubt that any Trump voter would ever vote Democrat, no matter how "normal" they seem. What we'll rather see is a mass disillusionment and "none of the above" stay-at-home-on-election-night-ism. Concerning Russian help for Iran, it's not longer about whether Iran wants it or not (I suspect they've recently changed their mind on that one). It's more about what Russia needs to do: if they don't back Iran to the hilt and the regime falls, Putin and Xi don't deserve to survive. However, I don't believe they have the level of strategic myopia and stupidity that is par for the course in the West.
Perhaps using a longer view of things, Iran's immediate future is not existential to Russia in any way. The north-south corridor would have been nice and someday will be. Meanwhile, if neocon, hegemonic powers win the battle of regime change, then what is their bigger war in Iran? A new Vietnam? US and Israel probably don't have the resources to fight an insurgency war stretching from Iraq to Pakistan. Just more neocon blunders and bad consequences which Russia can basically sit-out for a few years.
Anything's possible, dpy and Putin and Xi are not fools. However, the whole attraction of BRICS was smaller more vulnerable nations could now break away from the US, knowing that the big hitters, Russia and China, had their backs. If Iran goes, so will confidence in BRICS. Maybe! Who knows?
I'd like to explore the Musk option, a new party. I think they may be surreptitiously providing aid in the form of intelligence and rumor has it missiles from China. The ones Pakiistan was crowing about.
I had to read back to try to understand what you are on about.
The Netanyahu Zoom call remark?
If so, some don't think of that entity as Jewish. Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro certainly would not, if I may risk speaking for a man who told Ben Gvir to "go eat pork."
Judaism is a religion and a Jew is a person of that faith...never mind certain violent heresies of Judaism for now, every religion's got em.
Netanyahu is a Zionist Israeli by way of Poland, not a Jew, though he claims it.
That is what Rabbi Shapiro terms "identity theft."
He further points out that "Zionism is the opposite of Judaism."
You can't have religion centered on justice and righteousness and also on national expansion by atrocities all in one.
Jewishness is not ethnic, but religious. There are Jews of many ethnicities. It is certainly not any nationality. It has no preferred state other than godliness.
The singularity in Judaism that has allowed Zionist atheists to claim they are "Jew" is the belief that the call to serve God by practicing the Jewish religion is passed on by the mother...but one called to fulfill mitzvoths may reject the invitation. An atheist cannot be a Jew, whatever his background or religious/cultural heritage.
Are certain ethnicities strongly associated with Judaism? Sure, but there was a time when you could expect any random Italian to be Roman Catholic.
It is a choice.
I think you mean 'Zionist' when you say "Jewish".
Wrong.
It describes many who call themselves "Jews" and are not, as 'Zionist' also describes many who call themselves"Christians" and are not.
I guess they don't want to say, "I support the violent expansion of a pseudo-ethnic and pseudo-religious state characterized by a supremacist heresy of Judaism.
I am referring to the claim by Mark that Trump is owned by the Jewish lobby. I don't think that's the case so I'm just tired of hearing that. I'm not mad or anything I just decided to unsubscribe from Mark.
OK, who do you think owns him? Max Blumenthal says the Adelsons have given Trump $600 million and are his most frequent visitors. It was Miriam who demanded that Trump recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel--which is not recognized under international law. And he gave her some Medal of Freedom--for what? He's had tanker aircraft refueling the US fighters gifted to Israel that are used to bomb the shit out of Gaza. And he has led the blatantly unconstitutional charge, at the demand of David Sacks and radical Jewish Nationalist orgs, to "eradicate anti-semitism"--a thought crime defined by Jewish orgs as criticism of Israel. Are you suggesting that the millions Trump has received have no influence?
Zionists seek to reclaim the land they say God gave to them for all time. They quote the Torah in support.
Christians that fully support this, and so support the Israeli government, are Zionists. John Hagee is a leader of this group, and Mike Huckabee is a mouthpiece for the group. The two are zealots.
The Zionists' 'God-given' quest to reclaim the Levant has turned into righteous imperialism: they want to control the earthly world.
Those who are in their way, and who do not support them, are sub-human/Amalek/sons of Satan. Thus killing them to get them out of the way, and to keep them from attacking the Zionists, is perfectly fine. Such a God-less attitude permits brutality, torture, rape, sexual perversion upon their 'enemies'. A Syrian journalist, Laith Marouf, has said that many in the IDF are pedophiles (see his interviews with Rachel Blevins on her Substack page). And we know how the IDF soldiers, who man the wretched prisons where Palestinians are held, repeatedly rape and sodomize prisoners.
This is HELL ON EARTH...including the genocide that goes on daily in Gaza--during Israel's war with Iran.
And Hagee and Huckabee champion the cult that does this?!
Well, Dean, you could provide some counter-balance with your view as to why this perception is wrong. Have you? If you can't say so or if you won't then don't go away mad, just go away.
Pentagon official Colonel Nathan McCormack was removed from his position at the Joint Chiefs of Staff for posts calling Israel a “death cult,” referring to Netanyahu and his ilk as “Judeo-supremacist cronies,” and asking whether the US is functioning as Israel’s proxy.
McCormack was serving as the Levant and Egypt branch chief at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 planning directorate.
Yet another person who is tossed out and cancelled because he gives an accurate description of Netanyahu's orcs. He told the truth. McCormack certainly knows what is going on, given the branch he oversaw.
His assessment would have value in a sane environment.
But. But. But. Teddy Cruz just claimed to Tucker that the lobby is weak. At least now the masks are coming off of these clowns during this highly emotional time.
I saw those land this morning - two large civilian jets (registered to the Iranian gov't). I thought it was a bit risky; I'm surprised they were not shot down by the Israelis or us.
The stunningly bad hostage rescue attempt, if that is what it was, stopped Carter's campaign in it's tracks and, as you correctly say, nosey parker, the artificially prolonged hostage "crisis" was an inauguration present for Ronnie R.
The "forked over the dough & hostages were released unharmed" has a "they all lived happily ever after" vibe.
My late husband was involved in planning for Carter's failed rescue attempt. It was an extremely tense time. Carter was trying to be non-violent while being back-stabbed by internal forces.
Except for the bit about "raping G H W Bush," most of nosey parker's version seems about right.
--Larry Wilkerson frequently pledges fealty to GHWB, but I think he was a rat: the first Gulf War was NOT necessary -- he knew it, Gorbachev tried passionately to warn him off, Arab leaders organized & argued that they knew how and could deal with Saddam. but GHWB saw it as an opportunity in the unipolar moment to take the imperial turn, whose denouement we are experiencing today.
OK, I'll ask you to provide that numbered list of "laughable" non-facts in Schryver's account--because nosey parker referred to them as "facts" in quotes, and also recently referred to my comments as "horseshit" while again refusing specifics. I banned him because of his brief history of attacking and misrepresenting commenters here. I don't enable comments for that type of person.
Sensing a "vibe" is a subjective, arguable, matter. Schryver was attempting to enlighten people about the historical background which is now being misrepresented by the war mongering elements in the US for the purpose of influencing public opinion toward war. In that circumstance I think it's highly unlikely that he was trying to communicate a "they all lived happily ever after" vibe.
I would argue that Carter's attempted rescue was, in fact, an attempt at a violent rescue of the hostages without addressing Iranian grievances, which were very real.
You are right, "vibes" is subjective. I did not see "non-facts" in Schryver's account and I was not aware of the opposition he was attempting to educate; perhaps I should have been: like Cruz, it's all most people know about Iran.
I was not aware of the "horseshit" comments (tho it's golden manure for my garden).
With deep respect for your work on this blog, Mark, and with your forbearance, I'll step down from further argument on the matter.
I had no problem with most of his content in that comment. Although I can't vouch for it, I left it up for others to assess. But in his brief time here nosey parker consistently has attacked others for supposedly being wrong but without citing any specific disagreement. I can't have that kind of disruptive behavior here.
Oh, he also made an ad hominem attack on me for my past employment, as if that meant that I might be lying.
It's amazing how many US presidents with big domestic ambitions and plans had them all swept away by completely avoidable foreign disasters: LBJ, Carter, Bush 2 and now the piece de resistance, Trump.
To think I once supported Ted Cruz. Sigh.
As to the voters, flitting from an anti-war Republican to an anti-war Democrat, that's an exercise in futility.

Thanks Mark. Another great (and educating) post.
A blogger on MoA stated that the China-Iran rail line is now active as of about a month ago.
Seems like a serious trigger to me to start a war of desperation.
Yes, I remembered after I posted you did note that.
Thanks Mark.

I won't stay home on voting day but I'll write in or vote for third party candidates.
The only worse than a Democrat is a Republican and the only thing worse than a Republican is a Democrat.
Perhaps using a longer view of things, Iran's immediate future is not existential to Russia in any way. The north-south corridor would have been nice and someday will be. Perhaps the three cargo planes that flew into Iran from China were delivering the rumored missiles.
You're a better man (sorry for the catism!) than me Coz. I'm done with voting, at least at the national level.
This is one of those things that has me thinking along the same lines.
I've finally had enough of the "Jews control Trump " narrative. I am unsubscribing .
I had to read back to try to understand what you are on about.

I did some reading today to bolster my thought process as I typed. There is a lot of historical information that defines and explains Zionism.
It is not an 'atrractive' research topic to me, but it is interesting. Knowledge of origins and history is beneficial.
Actually, Trump just registered as a Foreign Agent.
(not really)
Well, Dean, you could provide some counter-balance with your view as to why this perception is wrong. Have you? If you can't say so or if you won't then don't go away mad, just go away.

This shows the power of the Israeli lobby. Same as the stopping of getting Daniel Davis nomination under Tulsi.
But. But. But. Teddy Cruz just claimed to Tucker that the lobby is weak. At least now the masks are coming off of these clowns during this highly emotional time.
I suspect he'll shortly be vindicated, if not reinstated.
