So, how many HIMARS will it take to turn the gas back on in Europe?

The "war" in Ukraine has a three-fold purpose, in my opinion (when I use the term "we", I mean the West, most especially the US):

- It drains or reallocates cash we don't have, weapons we need for our own defense that will be difficult to replace quickly, fossil fuel resources and reserves;

- It provides a distraction from the unparalleled domestic problems of inflation, unchecked and encouraged illegal immigration, drug smuggling and human trafficking, as well as general regimes' misfeasance and malfeasance;

- It provides cover for the West's involvement in Ukrainian covert biolabs that are likely producing banned biological weapons, for corrupt financial get-rich-quick schemes by Western politicians and their families and associates, for ignoring Ukrainian government corruption and the threat of China's incursions into Taiwanese airspace, Belt and Road initiatives in the Solomon Islands, Africa and South/Central America (most critically the Chinese takeover of the Panama Canal), for the gaslighting of voters and attacks on innocent and truthful political enemies..

I'm sure this list could be expanded greatly. Have at it!

Yes. When you're going for the Great Reset you need to distract.

These people are complete and total morons!! Did it cross their minds to verify the quality of the intel there were using to make decisions? More of the make believe fantasy land perceptions that they have about the real world and now it has come back to bite them in the ass big time!

Russia was a paper tiger. WRONG

Sanctions would bring Russia to its knees. WRONG

You can keep spinning what’s really happening in Ukraine and nobody will be the wiser. WRONG

You can continue to act foolishly and suffer no consequences. WRONG

@SMH

But not WRONG, necessarily, to the neocon warhawks in the Global Deep State who aim to bring Russia down sooner or later...whatever it takes. Do you see any sign that they'll back off?

Far more likely they'll double down. And then double down again.

Ok, ya got me, I forgot you can’t fix stupid.

If you judged the war by only reading Twatter feeds and mainstream media, it would look like Ukraine had already taken Moscow and was chasing Putin into the Urals.

Just a reup of hashtags, and Ukraine can win.

Very insightful article and commentary. It seems we are the modern-day Bourbons, forgetting nothing and learning nothing. I wonder who will blink first this winter? I don't think it will be Putin.

It looks like Russia is winning the hybrid war.

On the battlefield she can't be defeated and doesn't have supply chain issues unlike the West. NATO direct involvement is unlikely baring some pretext (nuclear) events.

Some industries in EU are facing extinction level threat and social discontents are mounting : it's like WW1 at the end , leadership change or worse before capitulation event ?

Great analysis and lots to think about.

I’m surprised at Russia’s operational efficiency/ effectiveness.

Sounds like the Russians have learned from their previous Ukraine experience going back years.

They learnt from Afghanistan and Georgia. And they also learnt from our stupid mistakes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia...

Actually they learned a lot from poor performance in Georgia. Then their military alliance with Syria allowed them to rotate troops in and out, test weapons and strategies, and vastly increase their performance.

Wars Russia learned from:

Indirectly

- Bosnia / Kosovo

- Iraq / Afghanistan - from invasion to after

- Armenia / Azerbaijan - huge use of drones

- Israel

Directly:

- Chechnya 2 wars

- Georgia

- Ukraine/ Crimea

- Syria

Also it seems they prepared their supplies since 2014.

Yep. McCain and Nuland forgot that the enemy always has a vote. The globalists made their plans and didn't realise that Russia was doing likewise.

Our "intel" agencies must be idiots.

"Hey the Russians have been running their munitions plants 24/7 for 5 years now. Stuffs piling up everywhere. I wonder if they are up to something?"

Blind faith in sanctions and in the notion that Russia is nothing but a gas station with nukes. Ruble to rubble? GOP should be calling Zhou on that but they're not. What's up with politics?

Don't worry, Mark. McCarthy has announced a "plan for America" to inspire us all for the midterms and beyond. No, seriously, it is terrifying that there is no serious political opposition to the insanity ANYWHERE in the West.

Now, what is that, I hear you mutter?

I was hoping you would ask...

From what I'm reading it appears that the Kherson "counteroffensive" was a disaster for Ukraine. OTOH, near Kharkov it appears the Russians have screwed up. While they may not have lost large numbers of troops--the area was largely held by what amounted to local paramilitary groups--they did lose ground and have no excuse for not being prepared. I was certainly reading reports of an impending Ukraine attack in the area, so ...

The Russians will come back from this, not a big deal, like the Kherson disaster for Ukraine. But a black eye and a large waste of time. This may force commitment of regular Russian forces beyond what was planned for the area. Russian paratroopers are said to have come in to evacuate the local forces.
