If the US wants to make Ukraine the 51st State, it might want to check with Macron of France. He's hinting at sending French troops to UA. Maybe God created Ukraine so it could send everyone in the West insane.

Macron's big bluff IMO. EU/UK and their "security" agreements in play, however when the crap hits the fan to move troops across the Uke border... just watch. Get your bon bon's and cherry coke ready.

One does wonder if perhaps we are missing the bigger picture? What if the real goal was to destroy Ukraine so that it could be chopped up and added to various NATO countries (like Poland) in pieces? Ukraine has some of the most valuable farm land in the world and a very valuable strategic position. Perhaps destruction of Ukraine was the real aim?

I think you've been reading too much Tom Luongo, K! However, what is for sure, is that the neocons don't have UA's best interests at heart.

Neocon Zionists only have their own interests in mind. That has been obvious for some time. Did not Zelensky express the desired outcome that UA to become “Big Israel?”

It's important that we not forget that it's an article of faith in the hearts of Fred and Frieda Bloggs that Russia is an evil, freedom-hating dictatorship and that the West is kind, gentle and free! They think that Russia assassinates nice, cuddly opposition politicians, rigs the media and therefore elections, poisons people who oppose the apparently illegitimate regime while they reside in the West, murders journalists, shoots down commercial airliners, butchers innocent civilians in Bucha, beats up gay people all the time, bombs residential buildings, pitilessly bombs civilian infrastructure to make women and children suffer, colonises its neighbours, cheats at sports with drugs en-mass and tries to re-create the Soviet Union. Therefore, when Fred and Frieda Bloggs hear these revelations about the C.I.A., they just think 'oh, so that's how we are combating the evil dictators'. That's why the C.I.A. isn't worried about revealing this. Until you can punch a hole in the Wizard of Oz fake reality about the true nature of Russia and the West, you can't expect stories like this to wake up ordinary people to the horrors of Western foreign policy deeds; it doesn't shock them, sadly....

You make a good point. The many years of Bolshevik Russia, the Soviet Union, who as the boogeyman of evil in the minds of the West is not easily forgotten by citizens who have been pounded by relentless propaganda and that coupled with ignorance remains their belief that we are the good guys and Russians are bad. So, yes this story is likely to go over the heads of those unaccustomed to critical thinking.

The narrative that aid to Ukraine benefits U.S. due to defense industries getting contracts is not working with voters (Victoria Nuland).

Neither is narrative this is a cheap way to degrade Russia (Romney).

I’m not sure how the new narrative is supposed to work to convince Congress to vote for more aid. Sounds like a desperate Hail Mary.

Or the W.H. Is assigning blame to the cia for involving the U.S. for Ukraine’s downfall?

Or trying to provoke Russia to over react?

There is a motive behind the NYT article, the question is what.

It’s become increasingly clear we are a gaslit people and the government needs to be put into a smaller box. It needs to be separated from academia, the media, banking, medicine and science. As Reagan said government is not the solution to our problems, government IS the problem.

I think momentous things may be going on.

On one side, you've got Trudeau, the New York Times, and Zelensky all saying that the show must go on.

On the other, you've got Gerhard Schroeder saying that it was the Americans that kept Russia and Ukraine from making peace in February, 2022. https://www.rt.com/news/585491-german-ex-chancellor-says-us-blocked-ukraine-peace/

In the same interview, Schroeder says that only the heads of Germany and France can stop the madness in Ukraine. But guess what? Ukraine's allies are meeting in Paris right now. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2024/02/26/ukraine-allies-meet-for-conference-in-paris_6559280_4.html#

Meanwhile, the Danes are saying "nevermind" about the destruction of the Nordstream pipelines. Maybe bygones will be bygones if peace can be achieved? https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/denmark-ends-investigation-into-nord-stream-pipeline-blasts-2024-02-26/

And simultaneously, Armenia and Azerbaijan are having peace talks in Berlin. https://insiderpaper.com/armenia-azerbaijan-to-hold-peace-talks-in-germany-from-wednesday-yerevan/

Interesting too that Scholz is standing firm against sending Taurus missiles, saying it could get Germany in a war with Russia. Their parliament, whatever it's called, voted overwhelmingly against it.

That would be a pretty clear sign that the Deep State wants this "out there", despite the implications of what the article is saying. It's a sign that they're desperate and believe that making the arguments I outlined is the only way to get past November.

Orange Man Bad's opposition within the Deep State had to knee-cap themselves to try and save themselves. How much Trump may have known about this, who knows? Pompeo and the other high-level CIA Deep State clones are now standing in their underwear with the drapes opened. When squeezed this hard, irrational acts once considered extreme become more acceptable to avoid further exposure and recrimination. I hope Trump's Secret Service detail is up to the task of protecting him.

Too bad Tucker didn't have this arrow in his quiver when he interviewed Putin.

So many things to say on this. Great stuff, Mark.

First off, is Trump's ambassador to Russia, begging that Trump be stopped because of the threat he poses to intelligence operations (and so, Trump's very Russian ambassador was central to the activities of going around him). I can't find a link, but Jeff Childers quoted the former ambassador today (it may have been in the Politico article).

“He wants to weaponize the intelligence community. And the fact is you need to look with a 360 degree perspective. He can’t just cherry pick what he wants to hear when there are so many U.S. adversaries and countries that don’t wish the U.S. well,” said Fiona Hill, a top Russia adviser on the National Security Council in Trump’s administration who has regularly criticized his policies. “If he guts the intel on one thing, he’ll be partially blinding us.”

Wasn’t that Fiona part of the impeachment witness crew? If so, she is the problem.

Expand full comment

She is the problem. She is a psychopath and a liar. She was at the heart of the CIA's actions to go around Trump.

Expand full comment

She sure was. And I got a detail wrong. She was not Trump's ambassador to Russia. Rather, she was an expert on Russia on the National Security Council.

The New Yorker wrote about her testimony,

"Her testimony will also be remembered for her manifest smarts, her directness—a trait of the region where she grew up—her steely self-confidence, and the moral earnestness she displayed. She said she felt a 'duty' to testify despite the fact that it had led to her being subjected to a harassment campaign. When two Republican congressmen—Mike Turner and John Ratcliffe—left the hearing room immediately after making some dismissive comments about her testimony, she didn’t hesitate to rebuke them.

" 'Some of you on this committee appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country—and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason, Ukraine did,” Hill said. “This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves. The unfortunate truth is that Russia was the foreign power that systematically attacked our democratic institutions in 2016.'

"By midafternoon, Hill was being saluted online as a feminist hero. Jackie Speier, a California Democrat and a member of the Intelligence Committee, got her to confirm that, when Hill was an eleven-year-old schoolgirl, a fellow-pupil had set her pigtails on fire during a school test, and, after extinguishing the flames with her hands, she had completed the test."

Direct quote from the article, which was probably ghost written in major part--certainly vetted, word by word--by the CIA:

"Now these intelligence networks are more important than ever, as Russia is on the offensive and Ukraine is more dependent on sabotage and long-range missile strikes that require spies far behind enemy lines. And they are increasingly at risk: **If Republicans in Congress end military funding to Kyiv, the CIA may have to scale back."**

Note targeting of GOP.

Targeting Republicans, or shall we say scapegoating, is reflexive in the media. The Dem apparat would as soon brand all Republicans as agents of the Devil, excuse me, I meant Putin, and have Jack Smith indict every Republican voter for election interference.

Interesting surmise, although I wonder if the Euros are savvy enough to use the Grey Lady to take down the US - or would they want to? It’s funny, their unacknowledged dependence and submission to the US is what allows them to pursue their self-destructive support of Ukraine, not even a member of the EU! Polish farmers (EU) can go to hell though. Anyway, just speculation.

Yes. The news is that the CIA gave one of its controlled outlets this news. There is some ulterior motive. We all know that the establishment media isn’t in the business of informing the public. My guess is that the our intel overlords want to normalize their control of the state. They have been in de facto charge of foreign policy for years. Perhaps they see war with Russia as a way to extend the power they already have. In this scenario, the end game is to get the American public to agree to a national security state with intel running the show. They have had this power covertly. Maybe now, with a war on the horizon, they can use the moment to get Americans to acquiesce to what they’re already doing.

You don’t live in the bubble though. I could be wrong and probably am because I lack information, but I’m trying to guess what game is afoot. What does this admission do for them? I’d say it helps normalize the outrageous. They only know it’s outrageous because they’ve had to hide it. But they believe in the righteousness of their control. It irks them and worse that most of us aren’t on board with their rationales anymore. The big one is forever war. IMO of course
