The interesting thing about Sperry’s latest suspension by Twitter is that it may have been caused by a release of information rather than opinion. Here, via Zerohedge, is a screen grab of the tweet that I suspect was the real reason for the suspension:
"DEVELOPING: Investigators reportedly met back in June w Trump & his lawyers in Mar-a-Lago storage rm to survey docs & things seemed copasetic but then FBI raids weeks later. Speculation on Hill FBI had PERSONAL stake & searching for classified docs related to its #Spygate scandal."
To me, that looks like legitimate reporting—unless Twitter has some good reason for believing that it contains knowing falsehoods. But if that were the case, I would have expected Twitter to have banned Sperry. Therefore, I’d say that speculation on this account is quite legitimate.
It seems to me that the June meeting—presumably with the government archive folks?—regarding “docs” in Trump’s possession is an event that would be eminently confirmable, or falsifiable. The parties to such a meeting would have documented it and there would also be travel records and digital records to confirm it. If true, the fact of such a meeting is deeply interesting because it could have a direct bearing on statement that the FBI and DoJ may have made in the affidavit in support of its search warrant application. After all, the best view is that the FBI and DoJ would have had to allege in their affidavit that Trump was in illegal possession of “docs” that the search was targeting for seizure. If the meeting did take place and the parties to the meeting did agree that all was copasetic regarding the documents in Trump’s possession, then assertions in the search warrant application that Trump was illegally holding on to documents, such that a search warrant was called for, could well be called into question. Obviously, in the wake of the whole Russia Hoax scandal, “trust but verify” would seem to be a prudent approach to any FBI and DoJ applications having a bearing on Trump, and the report of the described meeting is certainly highly relevant.
Regarding the second part of that tweet:
Speculation on Hill FBI had PERSONAL stake & searching for classified docs related to its #Spygate scandal.
I’d have to say that, as speculation goes, this speculation is extremely logical. I’d be very surprised to learn that such speculation was NOT making the rounds in the Hill. It certainly would make sense of the MAL raid.
Just saying. If true, we should be hearing more.
Now, in closing, I just want to quote from Jen Dyer’s much longer article World crisis: Raiders of the lost files. Dyer is making the important point that many of us Americans may not consider—that this event is being closely monitored by the rest of the world for what it says about the stability of the American republic or empire. Moreover, Dyer argues, those foreign observers may possess a vantage point that enables them to see these events for what they really are—signs of increasing and dangerous instability—more clearly than we who are so closely involved from the inside:
The growing recklessness of what’s being done right now can’t escape notice. I think key foreign observers see it more clearly than we do. All of them know the signs of democratic collapse into political confusion and tyranny. Those signs have been well documented since Greek historians started recording the fluctuating fortunes of ancient Athens, and continue to this day in the “banana republic” model.
That’s what America looks like at the moment. We can hardly believe it might happen to us, but none of the foreign observers is as invested as we are in assuming it wouldn’t. Their vision may be jaded and biased, but in some ways it’s clearer than ours.
It’s certainly something to bear in mind.
Wonder if the "classified" documents are the same documents that Trump ordered classified but that DOJ has refused to declassify & produce. See: See https://justthenews.com/accountability/russia-and-ukraine-scandals/mystery-solved-doj-secretly-thwarted-release-russia
Denninger has a rather delightful column today about the raid. Yes it is speculation but oh what speculation it is:
