My initial reaction to Trump's statements regarding Israel, Iran, and the freedom to protest Israel's actions is to be flummoxed and flabbergasted. Just who is this man? What are his core beliefs? I had thought that at least politically, his core was "Make America Great Again" and "America First" and "The greatest economy ever" and "secure the border," and "I kept us out of war." These are ideas he has repeated over and over again the last 8 years. Now his statements regarding Israel are not aligned with those ideas and bring into question his entire platform, from a practical perspective.
Then I started thinking: Could it be that for Trump EVERYTHING is a "negotiation"; everything is taking positions that benefit you vs. your adversary at any given time? Even if these positions may not be permanent or consistent? I don't know. But it is a potential explanation. It could be Trump is the "transactional man." He is who he needs to be at a particular time. He's one guy with Netanyahu and the Jewish donors, another guy with the MAGA crowd, another guy with Iran, another guy with KSA, with China, etc.
This actually might make sense politically, when his current and primary opponent is Kamala. But if he is the "transactional man" just how are people (domestic politicians and foreign leaders) to deal with such a man when he is actually President? How do you know where he stands when EVERYTHING is part of a negotiating process?
I do wonder if there was a plan to assassinate Trump and blame Iran. If so then perhaps the "Iranian hack" is an attempt to salvage what they can from the assassination attempt.
