“We must protect ourselves in all key sectors of our economy (security and life in general), on which the future of the country depends. We must independently produce everything we need for security, economic development, providing solutions to social issues, introducing modern technologies…” I read this part of Lavrov’s lacerating statement to my French husband. He said, “sounds like De Gaulle!” Of course DG was opposed by the Socialos and the Atlanticists (a/k/a poodles). How prophetic and wise he was. You really wonder where we are when you say, “Gee, wouldn’t it be nice to hear such sentiments and sense from our own leaders!” So, per Lavrov, the Euros are left to “fend” and forage for themselves, consoling themselves over past glories (cf great film review of R Scott’s “Napoleon” in Unherd ) and most probably never getting up the gumption to meaningfully repair relations w Russia. I agree too, Mercouris’ recent programs have gotten to the grim grave root of things.

You have to scroll down to the Moutet article, “Does France Have a Napoleonic Complex?” She offers a brilliant critique of Macron in the last 2 paragrahs.

I always thought that law school professors, as a class, tended toward a Napoleon complex. So many of them seemed to me to be well under average height, and the argumentative ("Socratic") nature of law school allowed them to exert their personalities to seem larger than they were. I say that without having read about Macron yet.

Ha! At least your law profs had personalities! Macron, as befits a Davos puppet, has none.

I might be going out on a limb by saying this, but 2024 is not going to be dull.

Am I delusional, or does it seem to anyone else that the Neocons are playing Wylie Coyote to Putin’s Roadrunner? All I can see is the look on their faces when they realize that they have overshot the edge of the cliff and are rapidly descending toward the bottom while holding a stick of Acme dynamite with a lit fuse.

Sorry gang, but it’s hilarious and terrifying at the same time. I keep trying to convince myself that this is all just a bad dream, but a persistent little voice keeps telling me, “Sorry Bucko, but it’s not a nightmare”!

Two Roadrunners! Putin and Lavrov, running circles ‘round poor Wylie…

Guys guys guys: now I know why we have to stop global warming. If the ice melts, Northern Sea routes will be open and Russia will win. Quick, somebody pay somebody to sequester carbon; it's existential.

Bury sawdust if you have to.

Bury sawdust. I laugh, but they are serious. I saw that headline earlier today. Didn’t open the article. The greenies with their witchcraft and voodoo. Madness all around.

I think the Eurasian Economic Union has Europe worried as it could tear the EU eastern flank from Germany.

Cheap energy to Eastern Europe could throw a monkey wrench in the German dollar recycling mechanism with the impoverished EU eastern states.

Seems like the Ukraine is the linchpin to open up land routes.

Now I'm madder.

But its an important piece of the puzzle. Good that a whistle-blower finally emerged.
