In the first post today I quoted Doug Macgregor speaking about well known foreign policy realist, John Mearsheimer. Of course, for many Mearsheimer is best known as the lead in a duo with Stephen Walt, another foreign policy realist who was the co-author with Mearsheimer of
“Finally, this unhappy episode will not burnish America’s reputation for foreign-policy competence.”
Historical aside: In stark contrast to Russia, which, ever since the reign of Peter the Great (and with the possible exception of the Soviet interlude) has traditionally been a diplomatic powerhouse, I think the U.S. has rarely practiced more than second-tier diplomacy. Uncle Sam prefers the proverbial “Big Stick” over “Speaking Softly.” Indeed, isn’t it a bit ironic that that particular adage is ascribed to, of all people, Teddy Roosevelt?
Well the US does have a trump card, the Islamic world is terrified of Islamic jihadis taking the reigns of power and the fratricide and devolution that would entail.
Not to mention that a lot of the groups are on the US and UK payroll which is not unknown to the region.
U.S. loss of credibility/ being feared will have economic impacts.
Areas I would add:
- Continued Saudi Arabia U.S. bleeding relationship damage from Biden’s comments on the Jamal Khashogi killing
- Petrodollar - I expect more rapid de dollarization.
- U.S use of sanctions through control of Swift, will increase use of alternatives.
- impact of Muslim immigration to politics of U.S. and Europe
- Reduction of perception of U.S. power. Afghanistan debacle was just the start. Awareness of power of Iranian missiles, drones, and Russian hypersonic weapons.
-impact of European/ U.S. censorship / propaganda (swag on this). Russian and Al Jazeera news may have more credibility.
Russian Victory in Ukraine is going to have a lot more impact worldwide. And it may happen sooner than expected. And I don’t think there is anything the U.S. can do to stop it.
I have a gut feeling something will change in Syria, some how helping Assad and Russia.
I agree on no WW3. It would hurt Democrats to far beyond the margin of cheating.
So called Economic War on China, with so many U.S. politicians being bought off I regard as a joke. More smoke than fire.
OT: Vivek is fire breathing tonight at the debate. I don't waste my time watching but I saw clips. Tells the moderators that Haley is Dick Cheney on three-inch heels. Her rapid blinking tells me he stung her. Can't stand her, Christy or Scott. Also says gop is a party of losers. Update. Haley criticizes Vivek for being on tik tok. He says that's where younger voters are and that Haley's daughter has a tik tok account. She says that he's scum. Score another for Vivek.

“The bad news is that Walt thinks that, regardless, the widespread geopolitical effects will prove quite negative for the American Empire.”
At this point, at least in the medium to long term, bad news for the Empire is good news for America (and, not incidentally, the world). Just sayin.

Walk loudly and swing a shriveled dick……..Just sayin

A cogent summary of the millstones around the necks of Blinken, Nuland, and Sullivan. May even rope in William Burns too.
Maybe SC should be renamed the Chickenhawk State, with Nikki, Tim Scott and Miss Lindsey all trying to out-Armageddon one another.
Babylon Bee got her good this morning:

Disinformation claims across the board. We’ll let the MSM figure it out. LOL.
Good talk. Thanks for link :)
