Two decades ago when the American Empire invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, then later (beginning in 2008) attempted to draw Georgia and Ukraine into the NATO orbit, I was still working (until 2006) and wasn’t formally commenting on geopolitics on my own platform. However, I was commenting on other blogs, and I was telling people that these moves by the American Empire were about controlling the flow of energy—oil and natural gas to Europe from the Middle East but, especially, from Central Asia. The goal at that time—which continues to this day—is to cut Europe off from cheap Russian energy. This would accomplish two—or maybe three—key goals:
1) Isolate Russia and pressure Russia to play on America’s terms in the world economic/energy markets. Ultimately, the Russia Federation—deprived of its biggest market—would be weakened to the point that it could be broken up and the parts of the Russian cadaver dominated by the Anglosphere.
2) Europe would be rendered dependent upon the American Empire’s military for secure access to energy, and thus for its economic well being, leading to perpetual vassalage. In particular, Germany would be forced into full submission. Right: Think Nordstream.
3) China would be forced to obtain energy through channels that would be ultimately controlled by the American Empire. This arrangement could be leveraged to prevent the rise of China.
The road to this global American Empire has not been a smooth one and is now facing global pushback from the coalition of Russia and China, with their junior Iranian partner playing an increasingly important role. A key problem area has been control of the Black Sea and the Caucasus. Permanent bases in Iraq would provide access to the Caucasus, and drawing Caucasus nations—Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia—into the NATO orbit would allow for Central Asian energy to flow across the Caspian Sea, across the Caucasus, and then across the Black Sea to Europe. The potential trouble area of Iran would be surrounded on three sides—Iraq, Afghanistan, the Indian Ocean—to secure the southern flank of the pipelines.
Russia has resisted these American ambitions, as we all know—beginning with the 2008 invasion of the US/Israel supported regime of Georgia. Azerbaijan has been a willing cooperator in the scheme, hosting Western and Israeli intel operations. However, Turkey has been ambivalent, due to Erdogan’s dreams of a Pan-Turkic coalition extending from the Aegean Sea across the Caspian and the Turkic nations of Central Asia. Oh, the whole point of the so-called Abraham Accords would have potentially made Israel a key transit point for oil pipelines originating in the Arabian Peninsula.
I’ve repeatedly brought up the subject of the old Polish dream of an Intermarium—a commonwealth of nations under Polish hegemony stretching from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea. Traditionally, Ukraine has been a key part of that Intermarium, but Russian interests in Ukraine have always stood in the way. Here’s a map with post WW1 boundaries:
Why is the idea of a neutral Ukraine anathema to the American Empire? Because the use of Ukraine’s already existing pipeline infrastructure—plus upgrades to that infrastucture—provide a more direct land route for energy flow to Europe. Problem: A neutral Ukraine would be dominated by Russia, thus negating the Grand Energy Design outlined above, and thwarting American imperial ambitions. Thus the persistent Neocon efforts to break Ukraine off from its natural partner, Russia—largely breaking Russian control over the Black Sea and the Caucasus.
Have I mentioned Slovakia?
Mike Benz has a two part tweet that explains how Slovakia comes into play, and the same considerations apply to Hungary—meaning, Orban needs trustworthy people watching his back. Briefly, in 2022 a pipeline link running from the Black Sea to Poland’s Baltic ports (remember, in this regard, the Norwegian - Polish pipeline deal of about the same time). The last link of that pipline, which passed through Hungary, was connected across the Slovak - Polish border. Robert Fico thought he had a better idea. Fico’s idea is to reestablish good relations with Russia and re-up Slovakia’s energy deals with Russia. Orban has had the same idea. This should explain why the globalists of the EU are relentlessly hostile to Fico and Orban.

Now, check out these tweets, and note the date: August 2022. Yes, half a year after the Special Military Operation began in Ukraine. These two comments that followed those three tweets explain it all:
Long live Intermarium!
Russia is the biggest loser
You may also want to read up on the Visegrád Group. It was the prelude to the new Intermarium, so you can see why Slovakia and Hungary are such a problem. Connecting Poland to Slovakia, with it’s piddling economy, isn’t the point. Slovakia is only a transit point on the big map. Now:
Visegrád 24 @visegrad24
The PMs of Poland and Slovakia met at the border today to inaugurate a new gas pipeline connecting the countries.
Poland will be able to get 5.7 billion cubic meters per year (bcma) & Slovakia 4.7 bcma.
It’s part of the Three Seas Initiative’s North-South Gas Corridor.
That’s right. The second map (above) looks just like the old Intermarium, but now it connects to the Adriatic Sea, as well. It walls off Europe from Russia.
The new gas pipeline will make it possible for the North-South Gas Corridor to transport more Norwegian gas to south-eastern Europe through the new Polish pipeline “Baltic Pipe” that will open in a few months.
Also, more Azeri gas will flow north through to the Baltics
Of course, Azerbaijan is the gateway to Central Asia, from Baku across the Caspian Sea:
Slovakia and Hungary, under the leadership of Fico and Orban, are the fly in the ointment here. And it’s even bigger than that:
The new gas pipeline between Poland and Slovakia will also connect the LNG terminals in Swinoujscie, Poland and Krk, Croatia.
It will make it possible to import more U.S., Qatari & other gas to Central Eastern Europe.
Both LNG terminals are being expanded to increase capacity.
In other words, Central Asia gas as well as Middle Eastern gas would flow through Poland to the Baltic and beyond. Poland would host permanent US bases, possibly including nukes (Poland has been talking up that idea, while the US pretends to play coy). Israel also plays into this Grand Energy Design scheme, as another transit point.
Which brings us back to Russia, China, and Iran. One can hardly blame them for seeing themselves as being targeted for subjugation and/or destruction by a ruthless American led Anglosphere. An Anglosphere bent on global domination, willing to sabotage the economy of even its most potent allies (Germany) in pursuit of world domination. What we are witnessing is the latest phase in a war on Russia—a war to eliminate Russia as a geopolitical power capable of independent action—aiming at US imperial control over the world’s energy resources. An imposed US Rules Based Order. The resolve Russia, China, and Iran are now showing in the face of this existential threat should come as no surprise. All of this should be on the table for the 2024 American election, but don’t hold your breath.
One last word regarding Fico: Robert Fico, Slovak patriot. We don’t know yet whether Fico was the target of a plot, but The Duran guys do make the strong—and very obvious—point that Fico was the target of a campaign of vilification that could lead to exactly this result. As Fico himself recognized.
Let's hope Fico, a brave man, survives. Let's hope too that this hardens the resolve of all those resisting the Evil Empire.
Control energy, you control development…control development you control competition.
