I suspect Osterholm's career path at Minnesota Uni will not run smoothly.

The focus on "lab leak" has been used as a diversion. The fact is that lab leaks happen all the time and the only way to prevent them is to stop risky lab work. That means US must stop flood of taxpayer cash flowing to "gain of function" work..."Potentially high consequence breaches of biocontainment occur nearly daily: In 2010, 244 unintended releases of bioweapon candidate “select agents” were reported."...3/31/2014, "Threatened pandemics and laboratory escapes: Self-fulfilling prophecies," By Martin Furmanski, https://thebulletin.org/2014/03/threatened-pandemics-and-laboratory-escapes-self-fulfilling-prophecies/

My impression of the PR surrounding "lab leaks" is that it was largely used to shift blame to China, away from all the GOF work being done by the US in the US. There seems to be no doubt that the Covid related work being done in Wuhan was being directed by the US.

…and yet this reality has been silenced, reduced to arguments among virologists’ emails with the Fauch, when all along his lies to the senate committee claiming that GOF ($$) was NOT happening at Wuhan, were the real nexus of greed and corruption.

Do not comply. Push back hard. Treat them with the disdain and disgust they have earned.

G'day Athena (and S'21, too!)

Being a little late to this posting's party, my provocation to comment was to posit if a total and permanent 'boycott' of facilities that employ masking/social distancing requirements (etc.) might have some value. I am not confident of the 'bud-light' treatment here-in due to the more direct political-provocation involvement. We absolutely can't boycott the 2024 election over it (Covid-mania), tho' my hope of an honest election result is low. If there's any chance of a real election result we must pursue it. I'll leave whether the front-running candidates of today would be able to do what's necessary for another time - however from school-board to presidential elections we must remain engaged. That said, I will continue my personal 'boycott' of Covid-icocy that goes back to 2020. There are places I will never again do business with, Dr. offices I will not utilize, and etc... (Voting w/feet and my $ is all I know to do.)

Also, thank you Steghorn21 for both the willingness to share of your country's behavior - as I recall Europe in general led the way for much of the 1st Psychotic-break attempt (tnx & H/T DF Barr!) and secondly for the kind reminder of what I would hope folks will hang on to - Simply have God 1st and dealing with 'it all' will be done in a much better light. Blessings folks! (WrH)

Correct, Wayne. Keeping God first allows us some leeway to laugh at it all. I did boycott enterprises that insisted on masks. However, I also found it fun just to go into these places without a mask and wander around. To be fair, I had a medical exemption because of asthma, but I think it's important for people to see that not everyone is complying. Let's hope this latest Covid hysteria stays in the usual places and that the rest of us just carry on as usual.

I suffered Covid in springtime, 2021 (it was 15 days of horrible) - unvaccinated - and am enjoying my natural immune system's functioning in having not gotten sick again. Many around me have been / are taken ill with covid, unsurprisingly, vaccinated and now 'infected', some for at least the 2nd time. Worse, some long time friends, who became painful lost/diminished relationships 2+ years ago (I am vaccine averse since the Swine flu debacle and was made very sick from that vaccine) are now enduring the 'been vac'd, now sick' thing. I won't -*tho' I'm sorely tempted*- say "I told you so" but the loss is made more painful through their discarding our relationship over what turned out to be wrong-think/belief on their part (and my flip remarks would certainly do zero good). Covid-idiocrasy of 2020/21 fame engenders denial akin to what 'substance abuse/addicts' exhibit in good, level-headed folk. (Or who were... subjective note here). I fear the same wrong-think will arise again. Anyways, Blessings good sir as you enter your weekend! (WrH)

Agreed. I was fairly aggressive last time, but this time I've had it. I aim to be loud, vocal and non-violent. This has gone too far.

Oh they'll be hearing about it from me. Last time I let them play their games and just stood aside. This time they'll feel the pain. Any attempt to prevent my rights over a mask, such as medical care, will be met with extreme prejudice.

If Delta makes me wear a mask on my trip to CA, I’ll cancel. They haven’t yet mandated them, but I wouldn’t put it past them.

We need a spiritual anchor to keep us upright. As Wayne said a few posts back, it all has to start with God. If we have him in our lives, none of this crap matters.

Pardon my language but f*** them all. I know it’s crude and classless but I am so sick and tired of these twisted fools. Nothing boils my blood more than these mask, distancing and other mandated crap. The fact that kids aren’t dis-enrolling en masse from schools like Rutgers says all that needs to be said about the state of college kids these days. In my humble opinion it’s the canary in the coal mine for folks like me who think Nazi-style roundups aren’t possible here. Like cattle, they get herded into the chute for processing. The few cows who may question what’s happening just get stuck in the crowd and slaughtered with the rest. Over the top rhetoric?? I think not.

The only consolation is that these are lefty colleges and most of the kids are lefties too.

Hey S21!

Small consolation but even theological colleges are 'compromised' significantly. A recent study produced this stat: of 100 Sunday School attending kids who entered College recently, only 5% will remain churched. Not necessarily 'losing their salvation' however the huge proportion of anti-God K-12 education is having it's success and the college environments -already well known for anti-critical thinking and anything anti Faith- simply close the deal, so to speak of provoking doubt. This study included most college types, not just the 'typical' lefty/secular group(s). Anyways, as always, I wish you the absolute best! (WrH)

I get that, Wayne, but I also wonder if the results of such a study would have been that different in the Middle Ages. I suspect the number of true believers has always been very small and has remained the same in all ages. It's just that back then, saying you weren't a believer meant a painful end, and that today, atheism is far more vocal and aggressive.

A sad truth lay within your comment, S'21. My un-scientific view, amongst church attendees, was that way too many knew Who Jesus was, but lacked knowing Jesus as Christ. I'm reminded, the first loudly declaring Jesus as God were demons... Appearing 'religious' equates to your note of historical pretention of faith for mortal salvation, with the same (unrealized in both) eternal consequence. Ugh!

Yes, we must concern ourselves with our earthly circumstances - I need to be far more decerning for where to place priorities. We fight for our gov't to properly administrate so that we citizens can pay attention to our Spiritual needs. It's easy to forget to maintain priorities of God 1st in all things.

What I will leave you (all) with is highlighting the comment Castelletto left - and I am encouraged in being reminded of - God will resolve whatever mess we manage to devolve into. My best regards to you 2 particularly, and always to all my MIH friends. (WrH)

I'll just provide an anecdotal point. Today was my scheduled semi-annual dental hygiene appointment and to my surprise the entire staff was wearing masks. I'm talking middle Tennessee. No one else was wearing masks, just the staff. Crazy is back. What can you do but laugh at them...?

Before Birx was caught visiting relatives over Thanksgiving, she traveled to Tennessee (which she said had a lot of "overweight" people) and other states urging mask mandates, social distancing (meaning lockdowns), and closing bars. Birx wasn't just "a member of WH task force," she was the head of it, no one questioned her, per Dr. Scott Atlas...July 28, 2020, “Birx: TN should have statewide mask mandate and close bars to stop spread of COVID-19,” WBIR tv, Staff, Nashville, Tenn...“A member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force said…a statewide mask mandate would help curb the spread....Birx met with Gov. Bill Lee on Monday morning and participated in a round table with community and state health officials. She advised that the spread has now reached more rural areas, and it was particularly important for people in those areas to wear masks and practice social distancing….

“Many Tennesseans suffer from issues that make the disease harder on them, like being overweight, heart and lung issues, diabetes,” Birx said.

She said she hoped everyone heard President Trump’s message about the importance of wearing a mask….

She added young people who are asymptomatic are spreading the virus to their parents and grandparents.”…

…………………………………………

Added: One doctor in Tennessee believed masks were such a miracle cure that schools should remain closed long enough to allow the [mask] mandate to work:

AP, 7/27/20: ““We need a mask mandate immediately and we need to delay the start of in-person classes to allow the [mask] mandate to work,” pulmonary and critical care physician Dr. Aaron Milstone said, citing the uncontrolled spread of the virus in Tennessee. Otherwise, he [Milstone] said, the state must shut down again.”...7/27/30,“Tennessee resists White House COVID-19 recommendations,” AP, via WATE tv, Nashville, Kimberlee Kruesi

Masks and "social distancing," ie, lockdowns, ie, forced isolation of beloved relatives in assisted living facilities, forcing loved ones to spend their last days alone, are aggressively being sold by Dr. Birx on a state by state basis in public and private meetings with governors and and other officials, and press conferences. “Birx…has stopped by Tennessee after recently visiting Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky to meet with local leaders about COVID-19."...

You can't smell through a proper N95 mask. Some people have bad smells in their mouths. If you can smell while wearing a mask then its not a proper mask for viruses.
