Word seems to be that the Ukrainian defenses at Bakhmut are crumbling. How much of that is due to withdrawal and how much to pressure from the Wagner “Musicians” isn’t yet clear. We’ll probably see in the next day or two. For a status report you can check out this post at Simplicius the Thinker. The part about Bakhmut is toward the end—probably no less than 2/3 down the page. Excellent graphics.
However, as we all know, this is a truly global war, pitting the US and the Davos globalists against the rest of the world—but above all against the BRICS nations. Tom Luongo has an excellent new article out that deals with the “I” in BRICS, among other geopolitical topics:
As Tom notes, India tends to get overlooked in the geopolitical mix, with so much attention being paid to the emerging Russia - China relationship. Even nations like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey garner more attention—granted, they’re all important players, but India is potentially huge. Lately, however, we’ve been seeing more targeted complaints—and even threats—from the collective West about India’s massive purchases (and resale) of Russian oil. Of course, the Russia - India relationship goes way back, and the current relationship is about more than just oil.
What’s going on now is that Davos is getting desperate as all the non-Western dominos are falling in the Russia - China direction. India’s longtime prickly relationship with China complicates matters for Russia, but Russia’s world class foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov is working on this overtime. Davos needs to draw India back toward the West—the days of Trump and Modi making nice are long past—if Davos is to have any hope of stopping the BRICS juggernaut.
So, here’s what I take to be a core excerpt from Tom’s conclusion, for perspective. But follow the link for the full story:
The need to cleave India from the BRICS is now acute. The war in Ukraine is reaching the next phase as Russia forces what’s left of the Ukrainian army from Bakhmut clearing the way for Russia to establish logistical dominion in the center of the Donbass.
Because of this there is an even greater sense of urgency within Davos to upgrade not just Ukraine but also pick a new fight with China. The clock is ticking down on the old financial system. The end of LIBOR is nigh.
The bodies are piling up in the Fed’s war on leverage as high as the ones on the battlefield in the Donbass. Malign actors like Soros may still [think] they have the ability to avoid these things but, in the end, they are fronting strength while privately they are freaking out.
Moreover, global opinion of the West’s potency as seen through the lens of Russian potency has shifted in a way that make the decisions of Asia’s leadership that much easier.
These results are themselves revelatory of the biases within the populations polled, especially in the heavily propagandized West. But those from both Turkey and India are eye-popping and confirm my long-held belief that once someone finally stood up to the US and Europe and survived it would radically change the psychology of the geopolitical game board.
One only need to look at how brazen Davos’ moves are, how heavily they are flooding the zone with headlines, emerging crises, and easily-debunked lies to see what’s really going on.
At this point Tom takes a bit of a dive into Indian politics, part of which I’ll omit.
I’m no expert on Indian politics, but from the commentary I’ve seen, this opens up the possibility of Modi gaining a super-majority in next year’s elections. Regardless of whether that is true or not, what we know now is that the next year will be a minefield as Davos throws its weight around to topple another government it does not control.
...
My own view is that Davos throwing its weight around, threatening a proud and ancient civilization, will likely backfire as badly as the same tactics that are being employed against Russia and China. I just don’t see India being willing to accept recolonization.
Thanks Mark, and I agree with your conclusion. I'll be writing a couple of pieces in the next few days as my schedule is finally clear of accelerated deadlines.
This line from Babylon 5 should be all you need to know however, "The avalanche has started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote."
“Hey Victoria is there any particular country that we need to slap around so they’ll fall in line with the sacred neo-con texts?” “India? Ok, we’re on it . They don’t play ball we threaten them with sanctions!” “Klaus is on line two. He said something about stepping on a rake with this Ukraine thing. What should I tell him? Didn’t you already use that line on the EU?” “Biden is on line three and I have no idea in hell what he just said. Call Jill, got it.”
