Don Surber has a feel good summary of the Midterm prospects this morning. He works off the RCP projections, which we can safely assume slant Dem—because of the data input. They’re projecting a 53-47 GOP Senate and an easy win for the GOP in the House—Don actually suggests that the GOP win in the House could be the biggest since 1928. There’s lots more here:
Thanks Mark for all you do. I often have to wait till the weekend to catch up on all your blogs. Much appreciated.
Pertaining to the last couple of paragraphs, i've heard that Biden has been getting many more federal judges approved with the current Senate. My hope is this slows to a trickle over the next 2 years if Republicans gain control.
Right. But those vacancies that are being filled are mostly at the district court level. That's why it was smart for the Trump admin to fill all those appellate vacancies first--to thwart the lower courts. The SCOTUS can only take a relative handful of cases in any year. They need the appellate courts to keep the district courts more or less on the straight and narrow. Tx.
While I would love to think that the mid-terms will bring some real change, I have serious doubts. The action for real change in this country is the states. DC is a cancer. Sure, I'll vote but I don't think it means very much, at least not on the national level. I live in a state where I can talk to my local reps and senators. They shop in the same supermarkets I do, Getting a meeting with my DC rep or senator is impossible, unless of course I had a million bucks to give em.
Durham and Barr apologists should ask themselves why such a great prosecutor brought such a weak case only to lose for public exposure of FBI corruption. UMM, WHY not LOSE charging the FBI? Your theories make no sense.
The polling "bounce" experienced by Dems in Aug and Sept was a fraud perpetrated by the media/polling companies. It was fabricated with the samples, and done to try to create a public impression Dems were recovering in their standing with voters.
I don't think so. Faked / skewed polling is an essential part of any election "fix". They have to make the fixed result seem plausible, to retain the appearance of legitimacy.
If they've given up on keeping up appearances, we're definitely in for a revolution.
The CDC decision offers a lot of hope for the side of truth. As a homeschooling parent, I see it pushing even more people out of state schooling. It will also convince more and more Americans that the Covid cultists are evil. Concerning a midterm GOP tidal wave, I have no hopes that they will do anything to right the ship. If they set the wheels in motion by the end of next Jan to defund the 80k+ new IRS jackboots on the ground, I will happily admit that I was wrong.
Cautiously optimistic. If my memory is right, we also predicted a landslide in the 2020 POTUS election, not yet knowing the lengths deep state and Marxist ideologues would go to remain in power.
If Kevin McCarthy is elected speaker of the house the red wave will be sunk. Nothing useful will be investigated. He already announced impeachment is off the table. The new house members must stand up to him and the rest of the rino's. It will be a tough fight. Hopefully a real leader will emerge
“There is hope, and there is much to look forward to. But it requires votes to make it come true.”
Yes!
Apolitical for most of my adult life. Never voted in either a primary or a midterm election. Until this year. My two children just reached voting age. I am 100% sure they will vote straight ticket Republican. Not because they think the GOP will save us, but because they know the Dems will destroy us.
I pray this is a pattern being repeated a million times over across this land.
Another major aspect of Trump was his business acumen and his belief in America first. He proved to Americans that the USA can be self-sufficient in oil production during his time in office which is now impossible for Biden to argue otherwise. The American people know who is responsible for the high prices we're paying at the pump and soon those in New England and the northern tier states will feel the heating oil price hikes bite. Intelligent voters might ask what's next after the SPR is drained by Biden? The climate change claptrap cannot compete with bread-and-butter issues that are emptying the wallets of middle class.
"Besides getting out of government schools and moving or engaging in political skirmishes over state mandates, what can we do about it? How do we fight back?"
Sure, DC is a pit of vipers, and regulatory capture rules the day. We all know that. But if we're going to have a semblance of orderly and lawful reform, there must be a first domino to fall. I think that's the outcome to work toward. The other way is awful messy.
I bet most parents in this country have no idea that these liability shields even exist. Would you buy a car seat knowing that the manufacturer can't be held accountable if it injures your kid? Spreading awareness is a good first step.
Just a guess but I think Trump could only get so much out of the Swamp Turtle and chose getting all his lower court judges as part of what he'd get. At the Supremes level I think he had to get the votes of despicable Mitt Romney and nearly worthless Murkowski and Collins and so couldn't get Rushing and had to settle for Barrett.
There are unwritten rules that the GOP followed for filling lower courts. The senate judicial confirmation committee, chairman and other gop members allowed the Democrats to play a lot of games including running out the clock. And then McConnell allowed the use of closure to flow stuff down.
Of course with Democrats in charge, it’s business as usual.
I appreciate Trumps judges that did get confirmed, it could have been more.
Those Trump judges weren't "lower court judges". They were overwhelmingly appellate judges. It was a very smart move--and probably was McConnell's strategy--because the appellate courts ride herd on the lower (district) courts and have far more personnel available to do that job. More bang for the buck, as it were.
It's important to understand that to appreciate the impact that the Trump judges are already having and will continue to have. You don't hear about every case. There's a lot going on.
Was the Cdc Vax mandate right before the midterms a game changer?
https://igorchudov.substack.com/p/antivax-political-candidates-are?
I’m surprised with a Democratic Whitehouse, where every decision is political, this was allowed right before the midterms.
Unless they thought this would help?

The Democrats slow walked confirmations under Trump, and McConnell allowed it.
Under Biden it’s normal speed.

Jeff Carlson says Bannon's big mistake was not having been a source for the FBI.

It was all faked.
This is what I can't stop thinking--if things are this bad this far out, and this started happening a couple of weeks ago:
Ryan James Girdusky
@RyanGirdusky
The next 17 days are going to be very painful for Democrats as undecided voters break heavily towards the GOP in poll after poll.
Campaigning on democracy and abortion has a high floor but low ceiling.
And all that was before the CDC threw a can of gas on the fire adding 'The Jab' to childrens other shots.
It's as if the election of Glenn Youngkin never happened.
BTW, Youngkin has spoken out against CDC today.
Oh yeah, AEI would be the liberaltarians.

A week ago a senior staffer at the American think tank AEI praised Liz Truss’s anti-populism, saying it could be a model for American conservatives
Could it be they are 'giving up' because they know the fix is in?

I found this article on Just the News this morning encouraging. Conservatives in the House have already begun the revolt against the squishy McCarthy.

Yes indeed. A real leader is exactly what is need right now.

Two good questions arising from the ACIP decision:
"Who are these people anyway, and how do they get away with it?"
That one's well answered here: https://amidwesterndoctor.substack.com/p/who-owns-the-cdc
"Besides getting out of government schools and moving or engaging in political skirmishes over state mandates, what can we do about it? How do we fight back?"
Jeff Childers has a very sensible, simple, and difficult suggestion for that: revoke all liability shields for all vaccine makers, at the federal level. https://www.coffeeandcovid.com/p/c-and-c-news-friday-october-21-2022
If the CDC were the only poster child representative of an 'Administrative State', we could likely manage it.
If only that were the case.
OK doomer :-)

Guy is a political scumbag. Sorry Tex but, he's just a weasel IMHO.
I read 'weasel" but when it came out it sounded like 'corrupt swamp creature'....
weird.
