I've been following MiH for a year or two now and have found the information to be really useful and trustworthy.

I have a good friend who watches a lot of Fox News who says that Mariupol was about 80% devastated by Putin. He said he saw drone footage of the devastation. This seems to be in contrast to what others here (and other places) indicate regarding the Russians trying to avoid damaging much of the cities and infrastructure.

Does anyone here know whether this information about Mariupol is correct and could point me to news links about it?

@gwb

Check out Patrick Lancaster, an American journalist who has lived in the Donbass region since the war began in 2014. He has personally gone into Mariupol and reported on it.

Russian version - Mariupol in Eastern Ukraine has a huge presence of neo Nazis there, the Azov Battalion, from Western Ukraine and Ukrainian speaking, is using the local Russian speaking population as human shields, and is forcing the Russians to go building by building resulting in a lot of destruction. The city as with others was ruled by Ukrainian speaking elites that ran all services. Russia will now replace those elites.

Thank you both for that information. I will go check it out.

Even after overriding the certificate that's not "trusted" by my usual western certificate authorities, I wasn't able to load https://eng.mil.ru/en/special_operation/news.htm until I went through Switzerland. Good to have a VPN, if you want to get that sweet "Russian propaganda" direct from the source.

Leaving an opponent an opportunity to withdraw in order to not force them to act out of desperation seems a reasonable alternative in the Russia/Ukraine conflict at the moment. The ten point plan above is maddness.

The amount of false flags out of the Ukrainian side is amazing.

Unfortunately it seems to be swaying / influencing many.

Pitiful. But this is OK because after learning what Biden said to the 82nd I was in the mood for some sardonic humor.

Thanks, Bluto Barr. You and the rest of the Establishment thought Zhou was good enough for the American people.

Bluto, Neocons and the elites knew what they were getting with Zhou. Problem was their ability to pull the wool over voters eyes to cloak the eventual shame and embarrassment.

Putin’s payback when ready will be fierce. It may not be fully felt here in the US but through other means in other places. He’ll use his own proxy ways. E.g. India, Africa et al.

Yes, whenever Joe struts and frets on the world stage, we all cringe, because he’s not only a useful idiot, but he’s a demented one too…I am no expert, have no medical degree, but from my experience speaking to my mother, Joe exhibits all the symptoms of this disabling malady: irascibility, memory loss, anger, incoherent speech, attempts to overcome brain fog by lashing out, telling half-truths or outright lies, by embellishing and dramatizing simple but unremembered fact. The result of all this pathetic flummery is painful to witness! Hinderaker and Johnson also devote columns to Biden’s Brussells presser - er, depresser…

I regard statements like this as senile puppet Biden repeating what his master/handlers were saying around him. For that reason it's possibly insightful.

I think there is a lot of truth in his 82nd comment. My guess as peacekeepers in Western Ukraine after an armstice and Russia gets Eastern Ukraine.

That would be putting the best possible construction on what he said, IMO.

The problem is this. What are the Russians supposed to make of this? 1. Is it just the usual gibberish, or 2. is he speaking out of school about stuff that's true?

It doesn’t matter. Putin will hold this like i hold onto luggage in the closet. His time of choosing to play his cards will come. For example supporting China in their own future skirmishes.

According to Tom Luongo, Russia invaded because they knew Ukraine was planning to attack the Donbass. Is this situation any different?

If so, a massive indictment of our “ diplomacy” (huh?) of the last 30 or so years, with Putin having to save his own face…

Nope. If Putin had wanted to claim all of Ukraine, he would have committed more than 30% of his armed forces. He said from the outset what his objectives were and from what we can tell, he's pretty much achieved them. Now he will have his buffer zone and leave the rest of the most corrupt nation in Europe to the West to look after.

At the very beginning of this, there were military types who said that the Russians wouldn't even go into the cities because they'd learned their lesson in Chechnya, that it's just asking for repeated ambushes and extremely costly when you can just surround the city and starve them out at your leisure.

Yes but from what I have read I believe this is also a result of a desire on the part of Putin/Russia to minimize damage to infrastructure and minimize civilian casualties to the greatest extent possible. Mariupol is a sad situation in that the Azov brigade has used civilians as human shields and their general intransigence has apparently resulted in the destruction of a large part of the city.
