The Ukraine Zone is a dimension between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. It is a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. Or so it appears to be for the oligarchical ruling class of the West.

Ever present are the dichotomies between what these people want to do and what they can do; and what they think they know (for example, about Russia and the state of the war) and what is the case. How much do they REALLY know? Are their action plans for NATO based on fantasies of which they are aware but cannot admit? Are they simply lying to preserve their status? Or are they uninformed, misinformed, or deluded?

The scariest of scary things is that the way things are currently structured our lives depend on these people. Their plans will likely be stopped by reality - but at what cost - to us? We can hope that the political change that Mark expects to happen does. In the mean time, the Russians are smart to take Napoleon's advice about one's enemies destroying themselves.

Can anyone explain, how did Kamala get to be a lawyer, Attorney General, Senator and now VP? She can't seem to talk at above an elementary school level. I am quite baffled. No wonder most of her staff quit. Is she the ultimate diversity candidate? I have never heard her speak intelligently. I recently read that she might have dislexia.

Search "Willie Brown and Kamala Harris". Willie was a political master and king maker in Cali politics for a very long time. Kamala was his mistress and that explains her rise to the heights.

Expand full comment

Not just Harris. He's also helped the careers of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and many others.

"During Brown’s stints in office and after his mayoralty ended in 2004, he has also been a powerful political patron who could make or break the political careers of others. Now, at age 84, he has seen his protégés climb to the top of California’s political ladder and become national figures."

"Along the way, be became a bon vivant, swathed in expensive, hand-tailored suits, and, until his eyesight failed, driving exotic sports cars at high speed. An understanding with his long-separated wife, Blanche, freed him to dally with an ever-changing array of attractive women, including one who bore him a late-life child."

I hadn't heard about Nuland being blocked as replacement for the "much respected" Sherman (I'll let that one pass). That's great news! The final paragraph is spot on: the Russians can afford to wait and see if the near future throws up someone in the West who is willing to negotiate in good faith.

As in respected by whom? Where?

By Nuland, probably. Praise indeed!

Ben Wallace has announced he's standing down as Defence Sec just now. He didn't get to play in the big sandcastle so now he's taking his bucket and spade and he's going home to mummy.

Expand full comment

Innaddition, Mercouris offers the possibility that Wallace’s last encounter with Zelensky at Vil-nil-ius could have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Once again peevish and ungrateful for the West’s unending (?) shipments of war materiel, Wallace informed Z that the US/UK were not Amazon, and that being supplied with ammo or tanks or advisors was not just a matter of clicking the “send” button…you can’t make this stuff up.

Also, the fact that some of the weapons NATO has supplied to Z have shown up in the strangest of places outside Ukraine.

Yep - weapons trafficking from Eastern Europe has been going on for decades. I worked with Romanian police officer on attachment who said his main line of work was stopping Ukrainian traffickers. It must be off the charts now.

We have seen a few toppled recently. Curious that he was snarky about Zelensky a couple of days ago and now he's standing down from govt. He's clearly annoyed so I wonder if now he'll go off script even more. Anyway - yes, another skittle down. I'd love to have seen Nuland's face when she was told she'd been blocked. I bet she looked like a bulldog licking p**s off a nettle.

Thinking regime change will include Susan Rice as VP to finish Zhou term and probably run. Kamala agrees to take Feinstein senate seat when she's kicked to curb. Burns to SecState. Behind the stage, Barack gets to play puppet master and Zhou get to pardon Hunter and other family members for cooperation on regime change. Any embarrassment over Ukraine debacle pinned on Sullivan (Hillary's boy), Blinkin, Nuland and Austin for giving bad info to Zhou. EU shut up with threat to leave NATO.

It's a creative solution. Get Feinstein to step down, provide her seat to Kama Sutra. Rice to VP might make sense for Dems, but the difficulty remains--a VP in this situation has to be approved by majority vote in both the House and Senate. GOP has incentive to disrupt that smooth transition. Part of the political disarray of the collective West.

Rice could never be confirmed as VP, in my opinion. Her comments on Bengazi and Beau Bergdahl are still too fresh in the minds of everyone.

The Wise Latina is said to be in poor health. Promise her seat to Kamala. A lifetime gig. This, to me, is the only offer she can't refuse. Just as Mike Downing opined, a deal with McConnell and McCarthy can be had to assure her confirmation.

If the Wise Latina is potential departure, RBG lesson would be to not delay and risk losing the chance.

Reminds me of the adage "Do No Harm." Kamala to SCOTUS puts her out of the way with limited damage potential, providing GOP gets/maintains Senate or the Big House. Also shuts her up (Dem win).

Would pay a ticket to watch John Kennedy grill her on legal and constitutional knowledge. Price of SCOTUS admission for Kamala is humiliation preserved for all time :-)

Expand full comment

There's no way for McConnell to rein in John Kennedy. I love, love, love watching him humiliate Biden's diversity nominees! However, despite Kennedy's best efforts, I'm afraid the fix would be in, despite the fact that Kamala is even less qualified than Ketanji Brown-Jackson, who is wholly unqualified based on not only her confirmation hearing testimony but her ludicrous first dissent.

Oh my, what will the Dems do to fill the Hispanic quota on the Court? Maybe Kamala can find a long lost Hispanic ancestor hidden amongst her Jamaican roots?

I, too, would relish watching Kamala try to respond to Kennedy's grilling on first-year law school questions! Particularly because she is known to be (according to her staff) either too lazy or too arrogant to prepare before giving her word salad speeches and pronouncements.

What does it take to impeach a scotus judge when the R's retake the senate?

There's long be an under representation of Jamaican/Indian members on SCOTUS. Kamala could be helpful there.

GOP (Mitch & Kevin Show) does some type of deal to roll over (their typical position). Thinking Rice and Michelle agree not to run. Happy to face Gavin. Remember, GOP doesn't want to risk Kamala getting the big seat so this gets her out of the way and Rice into caretaker role. Zhou is POTUS in appearance only, with Rice running show day to day.

"GOP doesn't want to risk Kamala getting the big seat"

Don't be too sure about that. She's such a disaster that that could be the GOP's preferred outcome.

Expand full comment

Kamala and Dominion should see her safely in the WH.

Expand full comment

GOP sellouts (redundancy alert!) might be okay with it, you're probably right. But it's worth adding that since she'd probably be thoroughly controlled by the baddies just as the current thing is,* the rest of us should dread it with every fiber of our being.

*Maybe not at first, but eventually. As Mike Downing gets at above with his "file" comment, the baddies have ways of bringing uncooperative Dems to heel, and that right quick.

Expand full comment

Kamala is chaos...gov't control in disarray. Both sides understand this and associated risks. Probably the reason Zhou still allowed to hang around.

Expand full comment

I do agree she will all but certainly never be allowed to get to the presidency. I was just saying that even if McCarthy, et al were okay with it, the rest of us should be very afraid should it actually come to pass. Her incompetence would mean not a minimization of the damage done but a maximization of her getting controlled just like the current White House occupant.

And that's not good.

Expand full comment

My guess is anyone who gets the WH as a Dem, will be controlled by the forces currently running the show behind the scenes. We all have theories on just who that might be,

Rush Limbaugh said something very interesting a short time before he passed. He said that yes Obama and Rice were controlling Zhou, but there were others above them that no of us, including him had a clue about.

Anyone here remember Dan Quayle and how terrified people were that he was only a heartbeat away from the WH? Harris makes him seem like Reagan.

I greatly appreciate your comment above that Trump insisted on " a safe and effective vaccine, the contract repeats that requirement numerous times." That intervectin recommended by him was not made readily available amounts to murder in my eyes. I take issue with your comment that Trump lacks bureaucracy expertise. A President has every right to expect that those working under him are there to further his objectives, and what went on is shocking to the extent they sabotaged his Presidency, the Constitution, the Rule of Law and the best interests of America. I am pessimistic for the future, as should he ever be President again there will be a shakeup in Washington as never before. They can't allow it to happen.
