Mercouris today makes a strong argument for why Russia is hanging back. He's aware of Helmer's view and he has always spoken highly of Helmer. However, Mercouris argues that Russia is simply not in a diplomatic position to prevent an Israeli offensive, so they'll wait, see how events develop, and step in if things bog down or escalation occurs.

Not surprised by the pro-Arab polling of Russians. It was the Soviets that birthed the PLO and Abbas got his phd at Patrice Lamumba University in Moscow on Holocaust denial. Russia, like Ukraine has a long history of Jew hatred and pograms were invented there. I’m sure that many Russians haven’t overcome their ancient prejudices.

Following the CIS Summit, Putin held a presser and answered questions regarding the Gaza conflict.

Granny Boxwine visited Armenia. That means Armenia is doomed. As for Putin and Russia, I'd stay out of it and let the neocons make fools of themselves.
