New US House speaker says Ukraine, Israel funding request should be split

Expand full comment

Sorry but we're still screwed. How do I know? Because Johnson has said that his first act as Speaker will be to pass a pro-Israel resolution. Not a resolution on the open border. Not a resolution on the disaster that is American cities. Not a resolution on the obscene debt or controlling inflation or any of the other issues that are destroying the lives of Americans. Nope. It's Israel.

I've been told that members of Congress must take a loyalty oath to Israel or lose the support of big money donors with dual citizenship. I've read that the last politician to refuse to take that loyalty oath was Cynthia McKinney and that this was why she lost her reelection campaign. We have states passing laws and resolutions against the BDS movement. Targeting Israel for boycotts, divestment and/or sanctions is not allowed. Complain about it and the ADL will call you an "anti-semite".

Now we're on the verge of World War III, with those who oppose American support for genocide in Palestine being labelled as "leftist extremists" and "woke". Kind of like those of us who opposed lockdowns and mandatory Covid Jabs were labelled as "anti-vaxxers" and "rightwing extremists" and "MAGA".

It's sad that those who realized Covid was a scam are now falling for this latest psyop.

This is a real concern.

Seaking of that squish McCarthy, can anyone explain this blast from the recent past to me?

Marjorie Taylor Greene - Kevin McCarthy

Was she playing us or him?

She supported him to get her de-assignment to committees under Pelosi revoked - no other reason. That was Speaker Kev's price for her vote.

Thanks Anne. Intended to research this specific strange to completion but the neverending, back to back squirrels did their job and I proceeded in my attempts to figure out other mysteries. Then forgot about it. Appreciate the clarity.

A better headline for The Federalist would be something like ‘Neocons Fear Defunding of Insane War Against Russia!’ Ukraine War is not quite it. Mittens Romney thinks we are investing in killing Russians on the cheap because our people are not being killed. Where did Pierre Delecto learn to think that way? And Pierre is stupid enough to say it out loud. Insane War Against Russia.

Let's see how this goes.

S'21, g'morning! (I'm still fuzzy on what the heck time it is for you but may I call it 'close enough this time?) Humor aside, your comment reminds me to avoid getting excited. Mr. Johnson may be what is needed, however a slim majority House against the Dem senate and Presidency? Much success will be just keeping the "Saving Democracy" legislation and crazy spending stopped. I won't forget the many Reps who voted for that 'Infrastructure' legislation in 2021 which clearly added to our inflation. We'll see if there's a deep political thinker as speaker, or another victim of the power bug. Best @ U, good sir! (WrH)

When Trump is re-elected (hope) he certainly should award Gaetz the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I’ve scene that silly ribbons passed around to actors and other hacks for decades. This is the first person I believe has earned it.

Rush Limbaugh comes to mind as a worthy.

You are of course correct, I generalized a bit too much.

I'm sure McCarthy's thinking... "Watch this guy go and hang himself". We'll have to wait and see how it plays out. I'm a bit optimistic especially if we get separate votes for funding.

Call me naive, but I’m shocked at the perfidy and dishonesty of McCarthy. I had no idea “Speaker Kev” was capable of such skullduggery, such blatant flouting of the rules. I hope his career in DC is finished, unless his donors find a way he can fail upwards…and we owe a lot to Gaetz.

Maybe McCarthy could lose his seat in one of those infamous California “jungle primaries”, we could absorb the loss on a Rino, or at least put him on the endangered species list.

…and Trump had endorsed Johnson earlier…

He's now third in line to the big job isn't he? Hmmmm......

If we could just get Biden and Harris to play lawn darts on the back lawn of the White House there's at least a 50-50 chance Mike Johnson will be President the next day.

That was the big fear of Jordan by RINOs and the Democrat communists.

I'll go out on a limb here--the UniParty/RINOs just got jiujisu'ed flat on their backs. The 'secret ballot' preceding the formal one today must've come as a shocker. It did to me. Easy to imagine the UkroKnotSee funding to dwindle to a face-saving trickle, although the Izzie bucks will flow unimpeded.

Hopefully, the War-Bucks packages will be doled out separately and not as some umbrella grant.

In an earlier post, I called it a death struggle between Republicans and RINOs. Neither side could win, at least not if neither side made a deal with the Democrats.

The fact that Johnson prevailed..... Was it due to Trump's influence? Did the House Freedom Caucus show more mettle? Are congressmen hearing from their constituents in large enough numbers to persuade them that the only thing they truly care about, i. e., reelection, is threatened and this means they had to cave to the HFC? Maybe as AmericanCardigan stated, the RINOs are waiting for Johnson to stumble.

Questions in my mind that I ponder.

Good questions, indeed.

If history is a predictor, a stumble would not be unexpected. One would like to think that all involved show more mettle and that--finally!--a true patriot has emerged. The mere fact that this guy came out of nowhere, taking the DEMs by surprise, gives me hope.

The Deep State only has as much power as we, the People, allow. If we have true resolve and elect good people to represent us, the power will flow back to our representatives, senators and presidents. The Administrative State and be undone.

A big if.

Johnson's' past and current positions signal that he is a true conservative. They'll surely test his mettle but I suspect he is up to the task.
