This is why I believe that Israel is doomed. To survive, it has not only needed military dominance and American largesse, but also a sense of moral righteousness. There have to be enough people in the West who believe that Israel has a right to exist because it is a symbol of "never again!" and a beacon of safety for an oppressed and victimised people who were subjected to the worst crime in history, the Holocaust. That sense of moral righteousness has now gone forever. Millions of us are asking how what Netanyahu and his gang are doing in Gaza is any different from what happened to the Jews in the Nazi labour camps and the Warsaw Ghetto. I see no difference whatsoever.

Hi, Cass. I think there can be a rationale for hatred, at least. If another person has murdered your family, you'd have to be a saint not to hate them and desire revenge. However, I believe that the murderous hatred now being shown by the Israeli leadership is far beyond any legitimate rationale. At one point an arguably justifiable desire to establish a Jewish state as a protective homeland morphed into something far more sinister. I believe that rationality has been usurped by the presence of pure evil. How else can we explain the Israelis deliberately targeting Gazan kids, and inflicting polio, hepatitis and starvation on them? Why would they assassinate the only person in Hamas who could arrange a deal to release the Israeli hostages? The former UK diplomat, Craig Murray, has written an excellent article about this very issue of what is motivating the Israelis. His conclusion? "It is no longer possible to categorise the nihilistic violence of the Israeli state. It appears to have no objective other than violence and an urge for desolation." This is the kind of evil that cries out to be destroyed.
