There’s a low rumble of speculation ongoing over the drone attack on the Kremlin. Some say Russia has taken a page out of their book on US history—the chapter on the Tonkin Gulf Incident. Others say, No, it really was a Ukrainian attack. Still others suggest that, if it was the Ukrainians, then it only went ahead with US approval and, perhaps, assistance. All these analysts point to Zelensky’s current peregrinations as a possible sign that he’s staying abroad to avoid a retaliatory strike against himself personally (courtesy Simplicius):
I can only speculate, and that’s not worth much. However, I do want to point out some informed commentary. While it’s also speculative, it’s backed up with real world information and experience.
First, Larry Johnson makes a smart observation about whether Russia will really launch a massive retaliatory strike that targets top levels of the Ukrainian government—as Dmitry Medvedev has called for:
UKRAINE DRONE ATTACK ON THE KREMLIN PUSHES THE WAR IN UKRAINE UP THE ESCALATOR
Some believe that Russia will now take off the gloves and attack the Ukrainian Executive, Legislative and military headquarters in Kiev. I believe that the Russians are not in a hurry to do this. Why? I believe they have intelligence assets, i.e., human spies, embedded in the Ukrainian General Staff and in Zelensky’s cabinet. Hitting those key Ukrainian government facilities when they are filled with workers would run the risk of destroying critical human sources. Just something to think about.
Simplicius comments on many aspects—at length. For those interested, I recommend it. However, he makes one point that I want to highlight. Simplicius quotes a Russian mil-blogger who suggests that the May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow could be targeted. That would be totally crazy, but when you consider who we’re dealing with …
I’ll quote the mil-blogger Zhivoz in full:
"My prediction regarding the beginning of the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine turned out to be exceptionally correct, as well as the motives that drive the scriptwriters of this offensive.
So.
1. The fundamental goal of Ukraine and its allies is not the military defeat of Russia (this is an accompanying goal), but an attempt to bring down the entire system of power in Russia. Not to "remove Putin", namely to bring down the statehood.
2. The offensive, attacks by the Kremlin and other acts, including the choice of a date for May 9 - all these are elements of a complex scenario for the formation of public opinion in Russia unacceptable to the Kremlin, including among the military.
3. For these purposes, all means are used, including the very active work of spies and traitors in Russia itself, the superiority in the information component, Moscow's excessive humanism.
4. Based on these theses, it can be assumed that Kiev should receive serious military successes within a week, exactly by Victory Day. Hybrid attacks on Russian regions will continue, their goal is not so much damage as great humiliation.
5. At the front, in the near future, one can expect a massive missile volley both at troop positions and at rear facilities. And work on the NATO tactics of multiple strikes, infiltration, and so on.
The only true counter-scenario for Russia : an immediate exit from all "deals". Generally from all. Forever. And a powerful strike with all available means of destruction, with the exception of nuclear weapons, as well as declaring Ukraine a terrorist state, and all its leaders - war criminals, with their warrant for their indefinite destruction."
Read it all. It provides a good overview of Russian opinion.
Finally, Alex Krainer suggests a tie-in to Zelensky’s recent outreach to Beijing that’s worth considering:
For Russia, Zelensky would be much more useful alive than dead. For US / UK / NATO he'd be more useful dead, esp. since he yanked his leash and called Xi Jinping last week without consulting his handlers. They were apoplectic enough that the very next day a delegation led by ex MI6 chief Sir Richard Dearlove landed in Kiev for a meeting with Ukraine's NATO central, the National Security and Defence Council.
National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine
Good luck finding anything about this in the news. Days later, attack on Kremlin. Next move: taking out Zelensky, blaming the Russians and turning the scumbag into a hero of Ukraine nationhood. Medvedev shouldn't have run his mouth, that was dumb.
Dearlove seems to be the spider in the middle of the UK's Neocon web. Check the "sneaky strawhead" leaked emails for insights into his character... Okay, so we're getting rid of May. Now I'm off to finish weeding the spuds!
The involvement of Richard Dearlove caught my attention, due to his deep involvement in the Russia Hoax—perhaps to include being the UK handler of Chris Steele. The meeting in Kiev the very day after Zelensky went off the rez had all the earmarks of a major Deep State pow-wow to talk turkey with Z. The speculation isn’t confirmable, of course, but it interests me considerably. Interesting times.

Make no mistake, this is a tipping point; the clumsy attempt on Putin’s life jolts the kaleidoscope beyond recognition. The only comforting thought is that the Kremlin leadership is not going to be driven by emotion. The considered Kremlin reaction is available from the remarks by the Russian Ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov:
“How would Americans react if a drone hit the White House, the Capitol or the Pentagon? The answer is obvious for any politician as well as for an average citizen: the punishment will be harsh and inevitable.”
The ambassador went on to draw the bottom line: “Russia will respond to this insolent and presumptuous terrorist attack. We will answer when we consider it necessary. We will answer in accordance with the assessments of the threat that Kiev posed to the leadership of our country.”
No knee-jerk reactions are to be expected. Nonetheless, the scaling down of the Victory Day celebrations on the Red Square itself must have been a difficult decision. The Victory Day on May 9 is the most important holiday in Russia when the public and the state come together in a patriotic celebration during which people remember their family members who sacrificed their lives to defeat Nazism.
For a strongly expressed view that this was a CIA op intended to greenlight Russia taking out Zelensky:

Hey, interesting speculation.
