This will be a preliminary post. The White House had said that an Iranian ballistic missile response to the barbaric Israeli attacks on Lebanon, and that attack is now taking place—more below. Lloyd Austin has issued a statement that comes across somewhat ambiguously. Basically, Austin said:
The US wants a pull back from the Israel - Lebanon border so that there will not be any October 7 style attacks and residents can return on both sides.
There will be serious consequences for Iran if it launches a direct attack on Israel.
Danny Davis is saying that, while on its face that may be an attempt to prevent a wider war, in fact Netanyahu will probably take it as another blank check from the US. It’s true that the US has flooded the region with military resources. The problem is that Iran’s caution up to this point has been paid back by the US with blatant bad faith and ever greater escalation from Israel enabled by the US. Iran has been pressured into this response and will not now pull back. If the US takes direct action, closure of the Straits of Hormuz would appear to be a given. And that will mean a global war of one sort or another.
As for the Iranian attack so far, initial reports are that as many as 250 missiles have been launched, targeting military installations as well as, reportedly, gas rigs off the coast.
DF Spokesman Daniel Hagari:
'The Iranian strike may be very extensive, we order everyone to abide by the instructions of the Home Front Command'
'We simply will not be able to intercept 100% of the Iranian attack'

NEW: Iran will only use ballistic missiles this time
A western source with knowledge claims that unlike the April attack, this time Iran is expected to attack Israel only with ballistic missiles that reach Israel within 12 minutes and not with drones or cruise missiles that allow for much longer preparation time for defense and interception - Axios
This may severely diminish the US-led coalitions ability to help Israel as most of their help in April was to shoot down drones and cruise missiles using jets.
Only a few ballistic missiles were shot down by US Patriot battery in Iraq and Aegis-equipped ships in the Mediterranean, with Israel’s Arrow-2/3 air defences handing the vast majority.
Heavy stress may be placed on Israel’s Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 air defences as a result. - Elint on X

Listening to DD right now with Rajan Menon—good discussion. DD agrees with my earlier point, that the barbaric Israeli attack on Beirut was intended to intimidate Hezbollah. That obviously didn’t work, and now the abyss of regional or even world war is opening up. Israel has no rational strategy and is governed by mentally unbalanced individuals. Is anyone in a position of responsibility in America asking, What’s next? What’s in this for us? Nothing good can come of this.
