Thank you Mark for linking the Luongo article, a truly devastating indictment of “the West” and its empty-headed, ridiculous (suicidal?) posturing, foppish virtue signaling, lame-brain diplomacy (Winken, Blinken, etc…) and cold blooded conniving (Cheney et al…), and now topped off by Sundowner… thank you for your tireless probing of all these dense and confounding issues…it boggles the mind…

I'm trying to decide which I believe - Putin was pissed at NATO expansion, etc so invaded to make his point OR he's trying to reconstitute some of the old USSR and put Russia back on the map as a world power. Ukraine does have a lot of resources so...

Well, here's some assistance on making up your mind T. In any issue, always consider *who* is pushing which viewpoint. In this case, who is wringing their hands and hyping fear of a neo Soviet empire? Why, whaddya know? It just happens to be the same jackholes who brought us Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Russia Russia Russia! conspiracies and the Wonderful World of Neverending Never Winning Wars. So, if these schlubs think Russia is grabbing back eastern Europe, the Stans, and Baltics then we have nothing to fear. Same crew that thinks an open southern US border is fine too.

Sadly there are also decent people who should know better but--it turns out--are too lazy to think this through. Nothing against the people of Ukraine, but I don't want to see a globalist win. These people are not on the side of ordinary Ukrainians and they're not on our side either. Life can be hard.

Via MoA:

Britain has had the stupidity of sanctioning the Russian air carrier Aeroflot. In a counter move Russia prohibited British Airways from flying over Russian territory. Normally all flights from Britain to the Far East cross Russian airspace. These will now have to be redirected to other routes which will significantly increase their flight time and fuel burn.

I’m reading now, thank you. What I can’t help but notice is these same globalist ideologies that called in Ukraine to give up THEIR nuclear weapons in 1994 (because that was going to end the Russian nuclear threat??) are coming from the same place as pretending licking down the economy and flattening a generation of kids was going yo somehow stop a globally endemic respiratory virus.

These people are idiots and they need to go. They only cause suffering to not solve, only extend, problems and cause incredible suffering with collateral damage.

I believe that, while Ukraine had physical possession of nukes, they didn't have the necessary infrastructure to actually deploy them.

The nukes had lockouts on them. The nukes probably ranged in size from battle field to inter continental. Ukraine was the logistics hub for the Russian military, where the rail gauge changed. Ukraine had 1/3rd of the Russian nuclear arsenal.

My guess is the only issue was the lockouts. And Ukraine had the technical expertise to do so. Delivery was not an issue.

There was probably a lot of internal Ukrainian politics involved where the internal oligarchs that focused on immediate money / resources, and did not see any value in nukes and probably saw a lot of downsides.

True, but they would have been able to develop it. Maybe Putin would have attacked sooner to prevent that. Either way they gave them up on empty promises from us. I don’t want Americans to die for Ukraine, and I’m heartbroken watching this because the people dying are everyday people - many young with lives they will never get to lead. Rather than prevent problems our national strategy for decades has been following stupid ideological narratives with constant mission creep and making empty promises to friendly nations to lure a false sense of security. It needs to end. Rather than building a strong country with independent energy supply and the ability to provide for ourselves from within, we’ve outsourced everything for narrative and become impotent.

Our military rush to recruit gender neutral unicorn warriors doesn’t help from a psychological side.
