For the benefit of UK readers, perhaps an explanation may be in order. Woodrow Wilson ran for re-election in 1916 on the campaign slogan of “He kept us out of war”. Wilson won handily and, In 1917, the US entered WW1.Thanks for reading Meaning In History! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
Very illuminating post re the frought relations btw the US/UK ruling elites. Puts me in mind of PM “that being said” Tony Blair who, with caveat in cheek, vaingloriously followed the Shrub into the Iraq breach…such ignominious days that, alas, continue…
I've seen lots of commentary that suggests the British are at least as hawkish about this war as Washington if not more so. As for Boris he is quite mercurial and I think not easy to manage as witnessed in 20/21. His interventions in Ukr were and remain dispicable. He was acting to save his political skin, which clearly didn't work and now he's been stabbed in the back a 2nd time I think we are closer to seeing the real Boris rather than the bumbling buffoon persona he usually displays. His resignation letter is worth a read.
yes, 100%. Not forgetting his full complicity in the Skripal fiasco which was his mark in the sand as far as hammering home "the Russian state’s appetite for high crime and misdemeanour". Master of projection, for sure.
Have you heard of the Off Guardian website? If not it's worth checking out for all topics but since you mention the Skripal case, here's just one of many articles:
Yes I read OffG regularly (though commenting there about as often as I do here). A more recent article on Skripal that is very worth a look was reproduced by UKColumn, it is a LONG one but very thorough: https://www.ukcolumn.org/article/the-day-of-the-skripal

Brit elites have been desperately trying to remain relevant since Suez...
…yes, in ‘56 the US told Eden to stand down ( the French too!) back when we had some common sense…

Thanks. I'll check it out - it may be the one I've been looking for that I read before :)
when Khodorkovsky(sp?) was going to be shorn of all his curiously derived oligarch holdings, he tried to transfer it all to the Rothschilds.
