Just a word for anyone who thinks Le Pen is "far right". Her main policies are standard socialist left: nationalisation of industry, limited working week, etc. And I highly doubt, that if she ever came to power, she would be any different from another "right-winger", Meloni, on immigration. France is screwed.

@Megatron_ron

The French recognized Israel's attempt to take control of France through Le Pen and punished her at the polls, again.

Officials in Israel's foreign ministry tell Haaretz that Diaspora Minister Chikli hurt relations with France by publicly backing Le Pen, and is working completely independently on cultivating ties with far-right parties in Europe.

The French expected a solution to the problem of illegal immigration, but instead they got a new attempt to control France by Israel, and a new wave of refugees from Palestine caused by Israeli bombings of civilians.

Le Pen has agreed with Netanyahu and the Israeli government to accept refugees from Palestine, in order for Israel to complete its ethnic cleansing. So she declared that her party is Zionist.

That is why the French showed her the way to Israel.

"Maybe liberal democracy is simply a failed experiment. But what do we go back to? I shudder at the thought of going forward."

'd settle for old-fashioned decency. Sadly, I'm not lately convinced we've hit rock bottom, and I fear we have further to fall.

Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance. H.L. Mencken

Not to sound elitist but most people don't know shit from Cheyenne so the Merchants can easily take over all power lying to people. That's why Merchants love democracy so much as opposed to monarchy (or other undemocratic system) where sovereign has the power. I'd argue monarchy is/was superior because leader has a vested interest in leaving a more powerful kingdom to his progeny as opposed to merchants (oligarchs) who just soon see America burn as long as they get the no-bid reconstruction contract.

My Kingdom is not of this Earth anyway so i don't vote. Never have other than with my feet. Left California when it became a mess in 91' Partially left USA in 2020 and probably will for good as things get worse.

Looks to me like Macron’s call for snap elections was a bet that paid off.

Was “liberal democracy” an “experiment,” per Publius? Since 1945 did it not become a “social experiment?” Since the 60s did it not become a psy-op, “social psychology,” giving us the illusion that we had and needed “choices?” Did Social Science try to pull one over on all of us, and ended up screwing the pooch? See David Brooks. Are the young of the West now telling the powers that be “fu” to their attempts at controlling them? We don’t need no more stinking fantasies!?

New Paradigm, requires new narratives, not new stories or fantasies. Humans want answers and they expect those in power to be looking out for them so they can live their lives and focus on what they can have control over. The last decade plus have made obvious that in most of the West there is no one looking out for them. This pisses off and scares people because they were not brought up to have to deal with reality.

What comes next? Modern/post modern is burned to the ground. Never to return. Where are we to look? Pre-modern examples? Charlemagne? Carolingian Renaissance…Alcuin (root and branch reformation of education leading to salvation). Which created the West and eventually when more people had leisure they started universities, focused on what to do with the humans. We are entering a similar period in the coming generations. This is the beginnings of the next “generation gap” and coming “culture war.” All “stories” that do not match up with perceptions will be rejected.

Genghis Khan? Recall that he claimed that God had sent him to cleanse the immoral.

India? Retrieving their medieval “morality.”

China? Retrieving the Dao, the Way, Order, divination. They have described the US as having lost its moral groundings.

What is the Formal Cause of this “mess?” Ubiquitous adoption of DIGITAL tech beginning in the later 90s.

What comes next won’t be “liberal democracy,” as the masses wont accept it.

I would not be surprised in the least if an intelligent, highly charismatic warlord suddenly appeared in Asia, seemingly out of nowhere, he will found a huge empire in spite of the odds being against him. It has happened before.

At least Macron no longer has a majority, and the tide is turning against the war in Ukraine. But, as they say, Macron a foutu la merde, Macron has brought chaos and dysfunction to his administration (“après moi le déluge!”). And the French, like their British friends across the Chanel, will continue to pay the price.

"la merde" - huh, that seem pretty negative! :) As far as "après moi le déluge!" that seems pretty appropriate and I can believe it. Bâtarde!

With regard to the “m” word, you do hear it spoken much more, sometimes lightly, sometimes in great anger; you rarely hear “zut!” (in all the old textbooks!) or “mince” spoken anymore. “Merdier” means a desperate, complicated and chatic situation with the image of sh— going everywhere, like our “sh— hitting the fan” expression. Another word I saw in commentaries on the elections is “bourdier,” or “quagmire,” which looks almost as bad as “merdier,” meaning a mass of mud or sludge…Either way, it’s a “galère” ! Mercouris had an excellent discussion (he was concise and non-repetitive!) of the British elections. He said that we now have “administrations,” not “governments.”

Thanks very much for the linguistics exposition, ML. Interesting. It does seem that many saw the election results as a "desperate, complicated, and chaotic situation," especially the entrenched political powers.
