I'm a member of the "protected" professional class who is currently trapped in a safe bubble as I tend to my 94-year-old mother in an independent living apartment in a large strictly controlled retirement facility while struggling to conduct a small non-litigation law practice without clerical help.
I am double-vaxxed, but a silent refusenik for the booster. If the facility management knew of my attitude, I would probably be asked to leave, abandoning my mother to the tender mercies of the understaffed facility medical unit. I am fervently hoping to contract Omicron, unlike the other members of my "class", so that I can attain lifetime immunity from the virus and the sanctimony of my "betters".
I see panicked contemporaries (including my left-leaning family members) rushing to get booster(s) without end, drinking Fauci's fear-laced Kool-Aid. Their robotic, lemming-like willingness to "follow [the ever-changing contradictory edicts of] the science" disgusts me. Does this make me a "class" traitor? Gee, I hope so.
I’m a member of the professional class and I’ve rejected all of the bs. I’m an unvaccinated pure blood, as are my husband and children. I’m tired of being trapped at home (as is my husband). We don’t wear masks, travel frequently, our kids are in a private conservative school where they’ve stayed in school full time in person since August 2020. We have tried our best to be as normal as possible since early April 2020 when the data started flowing from Italy (to the extend we could - which has varied wildly). We have seen my vaccinated and involved parents numerous times a week (even after traveling when they rejected our attempts to protect them after travel by simply waiting a week to see their grandkids).
While many of our contemporaries look at us like we’re zoo animals, and we at them the same way, there remain a good number of zoom class folk like us that have rejected this largely because the terrible impact on the poor and children was always obvious to anyone paying attention.
I voted for every adult to make their own choices, and every child to have access to whatever education choice works best for them. While I am appalled at my fellow country-club people who sent their own kids to school full time while voting to isolate and trap poor and middle class kids in their homes, I’m equally appalled by the parents and families who were directly negatively impacted and voted to throw their kids out like trash.
Much of the “zoom class” is very much middle class. They are highly “educated” yet largely of average intelligence and incomes. They voted to destroy their own kids!!! I will not forgive or forget that, and I will never feel guilty we refused to sacrifice our own on some insane alter to wokeness.
