A day or so ago e-correspondent Jim sent me a NYT article about Hunter facilitating a Chinese purchase of one of the largest cobalt deposits in the world. I try to follow all these things, but didn’t feel I had anything remotely original to say. Well.
Steve Hayward remedies that at Powerline this morning at the end of lengthy examination of Dem Disarray:
Biden Hits the Panic Button As White House Civil War Intensifies
Hayward makes his way through the implications of Powell being retained at the top of the Fed, the crazy decision to release oil from our strategic reserve—”which is meant for use only in national emergencies, though if you’re a Democrat, soaring pump prices and the party’s slumping approval ratings are a a national emergency”—and the latest in the Zhou - Kama Sutra power struggle. It’s all interesting. But at the end he brings in that NYT article on the cobalt deal in a way that makes sense of it:
But then there is the curious story in the New York Times two days ago:
How Hunter Biden’s Firm Helped Secure Cobalt for the Chinese
The president’s son was part owner of a venture involved in the $3.8 billion purchase by a Chinese conglomerate of one of the world’s largest cobalt deposits. The metal is a key ingredient in batteries for electric vehicles.
Hmmm. After watching the Times and other elite media prodigiously guarding Joe Biden against any allegations of scandal or dubious business dealings by Hunter, why this story just now? Theory: Kamala Harris sympathizers planted or encouraged the Times to run it as retaliation for the anti-Harris stories. Though perhaps it is just the beginning of an organized campaign to drive Biden from office early through scandal. It will be interesting to see whether any of the ace “investigative reporters” in the elite media can come up with the identities of the “anonymous” buyers of Hunter Biden’s “art” that has recently gone up for auction. And do any of his pieces contain brush strokes in cobalt blue?
Everyone knows that the Dems are now between a rock and a hard place. Zhou is increasingly and painfully dysfunctional and so is Kama Sutra. They’re cruising for a major bruising a year from now in the Midterms. The specter of who can replace one or both of those two—depending on your worst fears if you’re a Dem—hangs before their eyes 24/7. The outside world is left wondering: Who’s in charge? Who’s on first—or any of the bases, for that matter?
Shipwreckedcrew has a theory that Jill wants Zhou to hang in there just long enough to—yes—pull her own switcheroo in 2024. Word is that she’s really that nuts, no matter what the plan. A writer at AmThinker this morning—The Disturbing And Shocking Plan To Replace Kamala Harris—thinks the real plan is to insert la Michelle herself as Veep pending 2024. How crazy is that? No crazier than most of what we’ve been seeing. So Hayward’s idea that the NYT story is part of that mix makes enough sense for me.
However, continuing on the theme of Dem Disarray, Don Surber has an outstanding piece today, that shows just how and why the Dems are in such a panic:
Surber goes right to the Lib horse’s mouth:
Politico reported, "The Democratic brand is broken. The infrastructure bill isn’t fixing it. In one recent focus group, even those who voted for Joe Biden in 2020 weren’t exactly sure what the party stands for."
Gee, why would that be?
Democrats took over the federal government this year. Their first act was to shoot and kill Ashli Babbitt, and arrest 200 or so Trump supporters who remain in prison 10 months later as the Department of Justice slow walks their cases. Justice delayed is justice denied and the last thing Democrats want is justice.
Then they impeached Donald Trump. Again. After his term ended.
Now they are investigating the January 6 protest inside the Capitol in an effort to blame Steve Bannon for instigating a protest that led to Democrats shooting and killing Ashli Babbitt.
But Democrats are confident they can get away with this because they own the media.
I guarantee you, Surber is just warming up at the point that excerpt ends. All good stuff. He ends with this:
Voters are getting a taste of Venezuela's economy and they don't like it.
But Democrats want to turn boys into girls, suburbs into cities, and cities into shitholes. The right to loot has replaced property rights. If you dare to defend yourself, be prepared for a coffin or an indictment.
It all fits in with Scott Adams’ sense that people have run into a wall. They’ve had enough.
That’s a start.
Adams also said he thought that left-leaning news was more not-fake than right-leaning news. And he said it in a manner suggesting he considered it to be self-evident.
Is the us selling oil from the strategic oil reserve to China?
