As we pass yet another signpost on our way to civilizational ruin, I once again warmly recommend the rhetorical pyrotechnics of James Kunstler. He powerfully captures the depth and width of our current state of affairs.

Off on a tangent here but I see Brazil has agreed to deal with China in yuan. The downward acceleration continues.

There you go again T, making valid and damning inferences from facts in evidence! I mean, com’on man, you know that when the fit hits the shan, their response is gonna be, “Janet Yellen, today, admitted that although the American economy is in the toilet and what’s left of the US dollar is only useful as toilet paper, it was totally unexpected.” The President was unavailable for comment because he heard that there was chocolate chip ice cream in the White House dining room.

Which was totally expected.

Yes, TRR. There are two parallel universes in operation. Our one where we fret and splutter over pronouns; and the real one where major players make alliances and deals, and generally behave like adults.

There have been a few days in my life when I find myself wondering where we're headed as a country. This is one of those days. Washington DC, and quite a few states apparently, are corrupted by politics to a degree not seen in our country before. The foundation is eroding and while it isn't easy to place blame on certain things I would like to posit that the 60's generation so often mentioned as problematic has come full circle. Many people of that generation are great patriots and Americans but a rotten core of them and the corrupted ideas have come to fruition. Their march through the institutions is complete and they have full control. God help us.

"A fifth of Americans now view the government as the greatest threat facing the nation." What's shocking about this statement is not that millions of Americans no longer trust their government, but that the percentage is so small. If I remember my high school maths, it means that four fifths of Americans DON'T see the government as a massive threat. Scary times!

I visualize the US and Russia as a partners in a dance of baroque era which supposed going towards each other and shifting positions. May be with some jumps at important points. It seems that now the United States is going where the USSR used to be. And both are slowly drifting towards China's model.

Back in Soviet times, there was a very popular joke about Reagan's nightmare, who woke up in a cold sweat and explained to his agitated wife that in his dream he had not prepared the text for his report at tomorrow's Washington Regional Congress of the Communist Party. Still a joke but it's no longer funny.

The innovation malaise in Silicon Valley that focuses more on financial tricks parallels the us defense industry:

Boeing now days both civilian and military aerospace are examples, not to mention their rocket division.

Look at how SpaceX is so far ahead of their competition.

That’s a whole lot of smoke and confusion all at once. How many destroyers are they using for this effort?

Sure is confusing. I better wait before committing to anything if it’s this bad.....

Here in Switzerland, our lousy government has used political legerdemain to buy these airborne junk heaps, bypassing the usual referendum system. I'm very happy that we are now fully protected against the Russian Bear!

What a totally useless POS is the F-35 [in it's case the F designates FAILURE] you can be sure that the claimed 50% MICAP rate is NOT true, the FMC [Fully Mission Capable] rate is much lower. For perspective, the last B-52H was delivered in 1962, the newest KC-135's are mid 1960's production, the F-15C & F-16C are mid 1980's build etc. All of the aforementioned aircraft are much better in terms of FMC rates. Lockheed under Kelly Johnson did great things, example; the C-130 which was first flown in 1955 is still being built.

What Griggs did was to provide what I call the successor ideologists (for lack of a more-accurate grouping) with their most-essential tool--placing individuals in positions of great power who are so grossly incompetent that they have no choice but to do what they're told if they want to maintain their unearned status. Do you think Alvin Bragg worries about the esteem in which he's held as a legal mind among competent lawyers? Matters of personal integrity? Not at all, use the power as directed while you still have it.
