My father is an eco-nut. Has an EV, solar panels, rain water barrel, etc, etc. Complete wack-job and I say that with all the respect that my father is due. When he comes to my place, after an approximate 100 mile drive, he has to charge his car at my house so he can make it back home. He only drives 55 on the highway - to get max mileage from his car - and ties up traffic on roads with 70 mile an hour speed limits. No amount of logic will change my father's mind. He's a committed, full bore leftist who refers to me as a "racist" because I voted for Trump. An EV doesn't need to be practical because it signals that he is better and more enlightened than the rest of us. God help us if my father's mindset embeds itself deep into the American psyche. It's spreading - in New England anyway.

You make so many assumptions in all statements. What if he doesn't feel obligated to always have to pay to have his father "re-charge"? What if he can't afford a newer EV as you suggest due to a fixed income. Obtuse.

My father is a good man (also retired) but, through no fault of your own, you know little about him. Yes, he is trying to “ stretch his fixed retirement income.” He’s also a man who would force all of us into an EV whether we like it or not. I love him dearly but he hates America and most, if not all of her ideals.

I drive a paid for 2008 Chevy Malibu with 86000 miles on it. I expect to get another 70,000 miles on it.

How would it be cheaper for me to drive a EV?

Then quit forcing others to see your way to "accept" this as norm.

Not to mention EV's are basically short term. And EV battery isn't going to last forever. Aside from rust, a gas tank will last a very long time.

Still the single best EV cartoon:

Blow it up to see the driver and get the full effect (hint: the driver has jug ears).

EV’s are, for liberals anyway, the 21st century’s equivalent to the Philosopher’s Stone. The power of myth over these folks mind is amazing, with the wave of their hand, all of the myriad problems with EV’s are simply dismissed. We are right back at “the Emperor has no clothes” phase and the fantasy world that they inhabit can’t be bothered with facts.

So here we are, stuck with a bunch of slow-witted children masquerading as adults who are hell bent on having their way and the consequences be damned!

I am not an environmentalist, although when I was in Boy Scouts in the '60s we were taught old-style conservation--including when we packed up after a campout, we lined up and walked across the site picking up any trash any of us had left, and anything we saw that anyone else had left. I am driving a hybrid, a 2013 Toyota Prius V (the wagon version). But what I want from a car is basically two things: reliability and good gas mileage. I bought my Prius used, and have gotten both from it. In two years I have changed the oil twice and patched a flat tire. On a vacation trip last May, I drove 1725 miles and spent $151 on gas for the whole trip ( I did mostly stay off the interstates). Back then, I was paying $4 to $4.15 per gallon.

But even the top Toyota execs are warning that the EVs are not practical. And the idea of converting commercial trucks hauling tons of freight to EVs is ridiculous.

My husband and I visited Charleston last weekend. We walked passed a parking garage with a sign prohibiting Chevy Bolts from parking there due to the possibility of the batteries spontaneously combusting. We chuckled and agreed that it was a perfect example of the Biden administration. Sadly, it’s really not a laughing matter.

This is the article that will catch middle America's eye. Electric Ford pickup can only tow a trailer 85 miles before the battery died. What a joke.

And would that be the same group of blue state liberals who will buy these EVs that benefitted from the SALT deductions on their federal income taxes before Trump's tax change that set a cap at $10K? They're still stinging from that sticker shock.

"Push towards mass acceptance is on". You mean being forced to accept EV is on. As far as your Tesla comments "fitted all major highways with chargers"... not in my state. You must be a Californian.

Interesting how someone who appears to be an absolutely new first time commenter is so full of information to support EV's and willing to answer every objection anyone has. This makes me wonder what your income sources are and where your money is invested. I have never seen you comment on here before and suddenly you are all over THIS thread. Not one comment, not two, not three, but dozens, just on this one subject, and many are in depth. Hmmnn ... very interesting indeed ...

Cost of time to charge an EV versus filling up at a pump is significantly different. Can't wait till I travel with an EV and have to stop for 4 hours to "re-charge" batteries before continuing on my travels. Time/Cost of money needs to be considered IMO.
