 Speaking of Bridges . . .

The received wisdom at this point is that the destruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge was the result of an accident.

Probably so. Most things in America have degraded to a state of unprecedented disrepair and incompetence.

But if an enemy *DID* want to bring down a US bridge with significant strategic importance, the bridge in question would have appeared high on the list.

From a symbolic standpoint as well, it should be noted that the Francis Scott Key Bridge is not only the gateway to the major Atlantic Ocean Port of Baltimore, but is also a major transportation artery on the American east coast, lying as it does on the northeast borders of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

It is a bridge with far greater strategic significance for the US than the Kerch Strait Bridge has for Russia.

Just sayin' ...

Per WSJ, Ukraine soldiers in Sudan 8/2023-3/2024 helped effect Khartoum regime change to "counter" Russia: “The front line in the war between Ukraine and Russia now extends into Africa.“…”Ukraine Is Now Fighting Russia in Sudan,” 3/6/2024, Wall St. Journal, Lovett et al. “In fighting against Russian-backed rebels in Sudan, Ukraine hopes to make the war more costly for Moscow.”...From Thierry Meyssan, 3/26/24, “It was this [Ukraine] support [in Sudan] that enabled general al-Burham to retake Karthoum on March 12, 2024 from the forces of his rival, “general” Mohamed Hamdan Dogolo (known as “Hemeti).”..."3/26/24, “Moscow attack reminds us of the links between Islamists and Kiev’s fundamentalist nationalists,“ Voltaire net

Thanks, I've tried to keep an eye on Sudan, but it's hard. I assume that the Niger situation--government demanding that US leave big airbase--plays directly into this.

Yes. Ukraine gets to be US "boots on the ground" in Sudan.

Excellent piece by John Evans...thank you. Will share far and wide. Remember him as a fine man who'd bother to take an interest in 20-something Americans at whatever Consulate events we could sneak into back in the early-to-mid '90s. A genuine diplomat of that era.

I believe it’s an accident because these ships hit stuff all the time. Dropping anchor is the only thing they can do. Seems like it pulled the ship in an unfortunate direction

I think that confirmation came quite a long while ago, Our involvement with Middle East terrorist groups has been ongoing for a long time. Our support for the Chechens is also on record. I don't present that as a complete list, just examples. This goes all the way back to the aftermath of WW2 in Italy--just another example.
