Yesterday at the hospital, well, it’s about the only hospital in our neck of the woods that requires masks on your face. It was a twelve hour day for us. I spent a fair amount of time hiking around outside to get some exercise, but during the time I was indoors I let the mask they gave me rest on my mustache, below my nose and not really covering my mouth. They only people who challenged me were the people supervising the “surgery lounge” waiting room. I ignored them. No actual medical personnel said a thing, and for the hours my wife and I were together we didn’t mask at all. I also saw medical people surreptitiously unmasking and remasking. They probably knew how inane the whole thing is because they’d seen this PSA from 2019:

Briefly Noted: Avoid The Paranoid!
My naturopath recommended one NAC with Tylenol to protect liver...
In our neck of the woods (the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles) masks are still required in medical office buildings and the offices themselves, but no longer in hospitals and nursing homes. Tell me how that works? The blue fiber masks make me sneeze and sometimes cough, which brings me frunny looks… Masks are rubbish.
Best to your wife for a speedy, successful recovery. Knees are tough - a difficult joint as we were not intended to walk upright. My hip came out OK but left me with the operated leg longer than the other (about 3/8”) which makes for tiring walking and some lower badk stress. Need orthotic as heel lift is not a success. It’s always something!
As surgeon Dr. Sherwin Nuland once wrote, no surgeon can give you a new back. Filll in appropriate joint.
