“As so often with Trump, we’ll need to wait and see. “

Yes. And so must parties with whom he may soon be negotiating. This is called “the art of the deal”. Making deals is about information asymmetry. If you’re predictable, then those sitting across the negotiating table have information about you. Poker players know this. I can’t understand why people think it’s a virtue for those negotiating on our behalf to telegraph their moves. That’s just stupid.

Consistency and predictability are generally considered virtues in leaders.

Of course, as far as public statements (or leaks!) are concerned, one can't be simultaneously steadfast to those who must trust in you and crazy-like-a-fox to your counterparties.

Anyway, are you sure that the Don is negotiating on "our" behalf? He's representing some constituency, but I'm not certain of my membership in it.

I think I see the confusion here.

I don’t consider elected officials “leaders”, I consider them to be my servants, my agents, elected to administer the functions of government to the benefit of me and my fellow citizens.

The model of “the party says we dislike person X and therefore every public statement by our so-called ‘leaders’ in reference to person X must be denigrating and pugnacious” is childish in the extreme.

A more adult model is to recognize that those to whom we delegate the solemn responsibility of negotiating in our interest should be expected to use every tool and technique at their disposal — in other words, exercise the competence they claimed in seeking office. Their job is not simply to mouth our sentiments, but instead to achieve results

Good thing you and your fellow citizens have such a consistent will and voice. My invitation must have been lost in the mail.

You are articulating a foundational myth, the sort of pablum one is dosed with in a middle-school civics class. Don't lecture me about the consent of the governed.

This leads me to propose that Bibi organised Oct 7th. It was in his interest to do so if the above is true.

We all know of the weird lack of response from the most formidable set of barriers and anti-missile defences that couldn't spot a hundred para-gliders.

No one noticed the holes appearing in the wire.

Troops weren't called for immediately.

There are many more oddities that need explanation, but that above makes it clear that someone as dark as one organising wars could easily sacrifice a thousand of his people -for the greater good of course.

The problem isn't what Trump wants, it's what his handlers want. As we witnessed with Operation Warp Speed, his handlers win. This isn't the first time we get the impression that he is conflicted.

Shy Boy's avatar

I'm inclined to agree with this perspective. But on the other hand, I think he does a lot of strategic bluffing. He says things just to widen the Overton window, and also to make it harder to guess what his next substantial moves will be.

Who are his handlers, or rather who owns them? I'd say Wall Street. But (and Luongo opened my eyes to this, back when Mark was referencing him regularly) that's Wall Street *as opposed to* the City of London. Do they want forever wars? Is it good for their business?

It's always an oligarchy, but not all oligarchs are equally depraved.

I have yet to watched the Cambridge Union speech; but every place where substantive news andd analysis is provided, there is talk about Trump's promotion of Sachs' talk. Hope springs eternal. And two other analysts, like yourself, but of different professional origins, were discussing their speculations of what Trump's "vision" may be for his 2.0 Administration. Alex Krainer is deeply thoughtful, always; about the 37-38 minute mark, he described his own reasoning for how + why Trump is using publicly bombastic "empire speak" in the days leading up to the Oath of Office---including Trump's savvy navigation of avoiding the "anti-semitism" trope from every adversary. The Iraq invasion 2.0 was complete bullshit. That decision was made prior to the towers coming down. Another “don’t let a crisis go to waste” played into the marketing of the invasion. We were being prepped for ME action before I left the unit I was with. This was prior to Y2K. I got and left, but stayed in touch with former members who were letting me know all about this big beautiful centralized command and control base being constructed. Pictures too. It was insane. Looking back and tying together the little pieces I was acquainted with and witnessed, I draw no other conclusion but that it wasn’t preparation for a defensive posture, but for an offensive one at the time.

Trump and Sachs are paid up members of the swamp and the swamp’s goal has always included destroying the Jews going back millennia. Netanyahu works for the USA, which has a never ending roll call of others to blame for every crime it commits. It’s called psychopathy.

Well that is the crux of it. What are the chances of improvement. After all the craziness of the last few decades it seem normal to take a very bleak outlook, less chance of disappointment.

But specifically this character Jeffrey Sachs. I never got the back story, except as he presents himself over the last say 3 years. He brings to mind Ray McGovern, it's hard to picture him conniving to destroy anyone. I'm not saying he didn't.

What changed with Scot Ritter for instance. He was certainly on a career fast track and is now persona non grata. Did Sachs have a similar change of heart?

The irony of Dr. Nass being the main person to fill me in on how bad he is. But after watching at least 5 current videos I was wondering why he didn't get an appointment from Trump like Tulsi or RFK Jr. My favorite kind of character, been on both sides of an argument and now sings the song I agree with.

We get fooled a lot by psychopaths, I really think we need to ride Trump hard right from even before he takes office. We are sick of empty promises!

We don't know what Trump will actually do on the Middle East mess. He does know the players. And I am sure he wants to avoid a war, since that would be an economic catastrophe. Netanyahu on the other hand wants war, and does not care about the US economy. So we will need to wait and see what happens.

Gut feeling...

DEI just took a huge hit with the catastrophe in Los Angeles with the fires. And this will be leveraged by Trump for a full frontal attack on DEI.

Fun Facts:

- Karen Bass, LA Mayor, was in Ghana when the fires started to witness their Presidential Inauguration. She was actually a candidate to become the VP, instead of Kamala. Some have suggested she is the ultimate DEI hire.

- Head of LA City Fire Department was first Woman in position, and a Lesbian. Her #1 priority was diversity. Karen Bass also cut the budget. And the Fire Dept. started a DEI department. https://revolver.news/2025/01/la-burns-down-while-gay-dei-fire-chief-focuses-on-lgbtq/

- President Biden's visit to LA grounded tankers to fight the fire.

- LA Department of Water and Power, headed by another Woman, is not focused on fixing infrastructure, with many water pipes over 100 years old. Th at is why the water ran dry. They are in band aid mode, so when a water breaks happen, such as the UCLA Library a few years ago, that gets fixed.

- LA Fire Dept fired a bunch of people over the Covid Shot. Litigation is ongoing.

- Adam Carrella went viral, with his story of a 7 year wait because being a White Male to apply to the fire department. https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/adam-carollas-la-firefighter-dei/

- Gov. Newsom reduced the budget for fire prevention.

- Biden Administration stopped control burns in October. They were worried in case a controlled burn got out of control.

- Twitter is showing drone views that are just amazing on the devastation. Mainstream media seems to be sanitizing it. https://instapundit.com/694996/

- Many Fire Insurance policies got canceled.

- So Cal Edison is not focused on burying power lines, but green power. They do what th Gov. tells them to do.

- My gut feeling is the Pacific Palisades fire cause will be found to be homeless. https://abc7.com/post/people-living-rvs-pch-causing-concern-people-pacific/15118402/

Thanks for asking, but No and luckily I don’t live in Los Angeles! Still in LA County, unfortunately.

My Mother is near the Eaton Canyon / Pasadena Fire and it’s her second day with no electricity. Her phones are out, so I’m physically going over there to check on her each day. She is about 5 blocks from the mandatory evacuation area. Smoke is really bad. Supposedly she will get power back tonight. It’s a headache since she is on oxygen.

This is the most time her house has had no power in 60 year, since she moved there.
