Cuba announces the visit of the Russian nuclear submarine Kazan and the frigate Admiral Gorshkov

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

[Regnum] A group of ships of the Russian Navy will arrive at the port of Havana on June 12, Prensa Latina reported on June 6, citing a statement by the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba.

“On June 12, there will be an official visit to the port of Havana by a group of Russian Navy ships consisting of four vessels,” the department said in a statement.

It is specified that the group includes the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, the nuclear submarine Kazan, the tanker Akademik Pashin and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker. All ships, the Cuban ministry emphasized, do not have nuclear weapons, so their arrival in Havana does not pose a threat to the region.

The visit will end on June 17. As noted by the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, the visit is in line with the historical friendly relations between Moscow and Havana.

As Regnum reported, the American publication CBS reported on June 6 that Russia plans to begin naval exercises in the Caribbean in the near future. According to an American source cited by the publication, the exercises involve visits by Russian ships to the ports of Cuba and stops in Venezuela. Also, the source added, deployment or flights of some Russian aircraft are possible in the region.

On June 5, at a meeting with the heads of international news agencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia has the right to supply its weapons to regions from which sensitive attacks are expected on countries supplying weapons to Ukraine. However, he did not disclose to which countries the supply of weapons is possible.

According to the press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, the West has already heard Putin’s signal about the Russian Federation’s readiness to supply weapons to opponents of Western countries. Peskov also noted that Russia has the right not to name the regions of such possible supplies.

United States said that the Russian Federation is transferring ships and planes to the Caribbean

Russia is moving ships and planes to the Caribbean, where military exercises will take place in the coming weeks, Reuters reported on June 6, citing unnamed American officials.

According to these data, the exercises will become “part” of the Russian Federation’s response to the military support of Ukraine from the United States.

The publication's sources reported that Russian warships will make a stop in Cuba and Venezuela, and later, in the fall, will conduct another exercise in the region.

According to the agency, the US administration does not perceive the exercises as a threat, although Moscow did not warn about them. Russian warships have been sent to the Western Hemisphere before, the publication also said.

As Regnum reported, on June 5, at a meeting with the heads of international news agencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia has the right to supply its weapons to regions from which sensitive attacks are expected on countries supplying weapons to Ukraine.

“If someone considers it possible to supply such weapons to a combat zone to strike our territory and create problems for us, then why do we not have the right to supply our weapons of the same class to those regions of the world where strikes will be made on sensitive targets those countries that do this to Russia?” - said the president.

If the Armed Forces of Ukraine fire long-range weapons on Russian territory, there will be consequences for the countries that supplied these weapons, press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov told reporters on June 6 in response to a request to comment on the president’s statements.

On the Russian navy visit to Havana, Informant adds:

...a Russian Navy detachment consisting of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, the nuclear submarine Kazan, the sea tanker Akademik Pashin and the tugboat Nikolai Chiker will arrive at the port of Havana.

The naval detachment will be in the capital of Cuba until June 17.

It's an indication of how extreme the "discourse" around Israel has polarized that now even lifelong pro-Israel stalwart Chuck Schumer can be accused of being "like a Palestinian" by the GOP nominee, and this will be widely believed. Also note that being "like a Palestinian" is meant to be **presumptively insulting**

Trump says Israel needs to finish bombarding Gaza more quickly. He says unnamed people are telling him the Oct. 7 attack never happened, just like Holocaust Deniers. He laments that the Israel Lobby is not powerful enough, and even Chuck Schumer has become "like a Palestinian"

With a tip of the hat to today's Badlands News Brief (https://badlands.substack.com/p/badlands-news-brief-6b1), Putin has recent comments that are very reminiscent of Reagan's at Normandy. The shoe is on the other foot at this point.

Haha, I just made this up. "Mr. Biden, build that wall."

Good move by Russia.

I’m surprised the Russians have not facilitated a deal between the Kurds and Syrian government.

Not directly on point with respect to the armaments issue, but highly illustrative of the egregiously-wrong turn we've taken vis-a-vis the Russians in our post-Cold War drive to be THE global hegemon.

Today, in what should otherwise have simply been a solemn memorial for the fallen and an honoring of some of the greatest acts of valor the world has ever seen, Biden angrily makes the case for broader war against Russia, roughly equating Hitler's conquest of Europe with Russian operations in Ukraine.

Compare and contrast that to the following passages from President Reagan's Pointe du Hoc speech exactly 40 years ago:

"The men of Normandy had faith that what they were doing was right, faith that they fought for all humanity, faith that a just God would grant them mercy on this beachhead or on the next. It was the deep knowledge — and pray God we have not lost it — that there is a profound, moral difference between the use of force for liberation and the use of force for conquest. You were here to liberate, not to conquer, and so you and those others did not doubt your cause. And you were right not to doubt."

.....

"It’s fitting to remember here the great losses also suffered by the Russian people during World War II: 20 million perished, a terrible price that testifies to all the world the necessity of ending war. I tell you from my heart that we in the United States do not want war. We want to wipe from the face of the Earth the terrible weapons that man now has in his hands. And I tell you, we are ready to seize that beachhead. We look for some sign from the Soviet Union that they are willing to move forward, that they share our desire and love for peace, and that they will give up the ways of conquest. There must be a changing there that will allow us to turn our hope into action."

Yes, Reagan called upon the Soviets to give up "conquest," but this was during hardliner gerontocracy, pre-Gorbachev, which was a far more blinkered world. It was a call to peace, not the war rally on display today. Shameful, on such hallowed ground.
