Really busy day, potentially, so this will be brief.
Up till now, the dynamics of the whole Zhou dementia thing have been straightforward. The Dems want to swap him out to get a candidate who can finish complete sentences. The GOPers want him to remain the Dem candidate so he’ll keep babbling incoherently in public.
But does the attempted assassination of Trump turn that whole dynamic on its head? Consider.
The Dems now may no longer want to swap Zhou out—because who could run against Trump at this point? The man is becoming a living legend. Plus, swapping Zhou out at this point would be an admission that the Dem brand has blood on its hands—which is true. After all, the entire Dem campaign strategy is Orange Man = literally Hitler. Dictator. Existential threat. OUR democracy.
But the GOPers? They may want to force a resignation or even an impeachment—for the same reasons listed above. Or at least appear to be doing so. To bring out the base. To force from the Dems the tacit admission that Dems are the party of assassinations and political violence generally. They have plenty of material to work with—starting with Mayorkas refusing adequate SS protection for Trump (and RFK). Continuing with the Scalise shooting, and more. The over the top rhetoric.
I’m just tossing this out as a thought experiment. We’ll have to see how this develops.
Shipwrecked has this exactly right. It's one of the things I said on the podcast (will link when available). GOPers need to demand resignation for inciting and enabling assassination attempt that led to multiple shootings. If not, go for impeachment for same reasons. Time for Dems to own the hotseat.

On Monday morning there should be an investigation opened in the House of DHS/USSS/Sec. Mayorkas.
If it is true that the Trump USSS detail has asked for more resources and was denied, impeach Mayorkas the following day.
If there was any contact with the WH and the WH concurred in not providing additional resources, impeach Biden too.
Dare Schumer and the Dems in the Senate to vote to not remove them.
Here's someone who agrees with me:

As far as the 2024 presidential election is concerned, it is something of an understatement to point out that the attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump has 1) sucked all the oxygen out of the room and 2) made the Joe Biden campaign effort irrelevant. And on Sunday morning, only hours after the attempt on Donald Trump's life, some of the president's allies are pointing out that there is little point in any further attempt to replace Joe Biden at the head of the Democrat ticket.
